I highly doubt the IRS is interested in chasing the few pennies you made breaking even because you sold your Tacoma for what you paid for it years ago.

It’s only a deal when you see what the markup is on the vehicle you then must purchase in turn, right? I’ll sell you the ability to super white whitewash my fence for that 2020 apple with only two bite marks in it...

Yeah but you're not obligated to buy a replacement from them though. Leave the markups to the people driving the high resale values and demand...

Step 1: insert Tacoma into carvana system
    Step 2: select trade in
Step 3: use that value to negotiate at dealership
    Step 4: profit?

Dealers don't budge, my carvana offer was 3500 more than what the dealer offered me. I walked away and had carvana pick it up days later.

    Stawk as FUCK!
So what happens if you sell a Sport trim Tacoma and you’ve already swapped a non-scooped hood? It’s same truck and trim with OEM parts? Just didn’t leave the factory line that is all?

Hope they don't notice?? I'm doing the same thing with my OR but my wheels and tires aren't the ones it left the dealer with.

You guys may have to call carvana first and report the swap you’ve made and see if is ok with them. A hood with a different vin# may cause problems if the next buyer noticed the change etc. Carvana has the rights to return any vehicle that do not comply with their guidelines. I’m pretty sure they go thru an extensive vehicle inspection and that includes the checking of every vin#.

My brother in law sold them his sport with a off road hood , after you send them the photos you cannot remove parts . The driver picking his up had the photos he sent them and over looked it and was on his way.

The website gave me a $29,000 trade in for my 2016 OR with 24,500 miles in SE PA. It also said i was out of market and would have to drive it to NJ. I paid $36k before taxes, etc back in January 2016. About $38k OTD.

Think I'll hold on to it. I don't know what else I would buy anyway.

I doubt they would even know what to look for. I did the drop off only because they were down people and asked me to come in, it was 5miles away so I didn't care.

Dude there didn't even do an inspection. Just checked the mileage and handed me a check.

I honestly don’t think they do anything aside from a quick inspection on the ground, maybe throw it up on a lift real quick and that’s it. Anything they buy that ends up garbage they fire off to auction from posts I’ve seen elsewhere. My truck went to them with aftermarket stereo, 1.5” lift and they didn’t say boo and sold it on their site. The person I asked questions to beforehand didn’t care either.

Yeah, well thats a chance I rather not take. Is not going to be a fun day when you get a call from them stating they cannot accept your vehicle due to non-matching vin# nor was disclosed upon closing the deal.

    Good point

But, if you sell your Taco for $1,500 more than you paid for it and have (documented) $1,500 in "improvements" (not regular maintenance) there is no capital gain. Ceramic coating, undercoating, upgraded wheels, alarm, paint correction, tint, etc.

Also, assuming you had the truck for 12 months or longer and your income was $80k/year or less (jointly w/wife), the tax rate would be 0% regardless of the gain

Last week, when I picked up my 2020 Tundra Limited, the dealership confirmed that Toyota is telling them the 2022 Tundra will be a HD hybrid. Likely north of 10k lb towing capacity. By 2024 Toyota expects to make zero gas vehicles.

At least 2-3 years ago Toyota very publicly said that 100% of their fleet would be electrified at some level by 2025.

yeah, between Tesla and Toyota in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area where I live, we are seeing a ton of infrastructure around it. Electric utilities are offering rebates for installing fast chargers in homes, pushing time of use pricing and smart charging technology. There's going to be a whole cottage industry around retrofitting smart charging in old homes, it would be an awesome niche to start a company if there are any certified electricians out there that are tired of having a boss.

That is totally false, Toyota will still have gas engines in 2024.

From what I have heard, its zero vehicles that don't have some type of hybrid option, they will still have gas only versions of some of their vehicles

Right I remember reading by such and such a date they would like to have a certain percentage of Hydrogen Fuel Cell and electric vehicles. They just announced expansion of the engine plant in Alabama to build the new Dynamic Force gas engines.
