there has to be some catch with these Carvana offers

when you actually get there they probably come out with a clip board and pick your shit apart and offer you $5000 less

has anyone actually ever gone through the whole process?

If you’re seriously considering this then you could list it for $3-4K more than Carvana is offering and if someone bites then run with it. If you’re borderline at an $8000 difference then I would think that would be enough to tip the scales.

    :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Stop it! You have me thinking again :)

I just finished test fitting my DD light bar with some 3D printed brackets. Now to find someone with a plasma table and sheet metal folding ability. Getting really close to finishing my ‘build’ and that more than the other stuff is what is making me hesitate on pulling the trigger.

Oh, and I really don’t want to drive the two-seater daily for however long it takes me to find the replacement. I know, first world problems.

it’s easy as hell. The online quote you get is what the check they preprint and give to you will be. They either show up with a flatbed, a dude gets out of an Uber, or you drop it off if they have a location nearby. You sign the paper, handover the title if no lien, and they take the keys and drive off and that is that.

Sold my 2013 last year to them since got no local bites and regular dealers are lowballing douchebags.

now the questionable practice is why are they paying more than retail for trucks at the moment. I’ve heard various sources saying dealer pricing right now is ridiculous and so have been the used vehicle market prices at dealers.

I traded in a van a few years ago and got what they initially offered. No issues.

It depends on your state. In my state, TN, if you do a trade in, you only pay tax on the difference. Example, if you trade in a vehicle and get $30k and buy a vehicle that costs $35k, you only pay tax on $5k. That's significantly less than paying tax on $35k, generally more than enough to make up for selling to a private party and not getting that tax break.

I think his point is,it's better to trade in for tax purposes than to buy new/used at a dealership. If you get a thousand or two less on a trade, you make it up in tax savings if the difference in price of the old vs new vehicle is close. You need to do the math ahead of time to decide if it's worth it.

They met me at a shopping center parking lot since they were worried about loading the GT350 on a flat bed due to how low it was (and I'm sure they were jonesing to get some time behind the wheel - whatever lol). Just two guys drove up, took a quick look at the 4Runner to check the mileage and make sure there was nothing heinous damage-wise. But ultimately, if it's in the condition you described (I can't remember how they do that beforehand, like just checking "good, fair, excellent" whatever) they're not worried too much about normal dings or scuffs if it's not completely littered in them.

Now if it's got a bunch of pinstriping from offroading and dents in the bumper, I'm assuming they have the ability to deny you. I went over the 4Runner with a DA polisher in any areas that I thought I could easily take care of just to alleviate the possibility. But yeah, if it's in the condition you describe, they just check the mileage, you sign the paperwork, and they send you on your way. Think it took less than 30 minutes including them letting me take the GT350 out on a quick spin to make sure I was happy with it.

Be sure to calculate the tax advantage of trading in to a dealership vs selling outright if your state allows it.

In Washington, I've traded in vehicles at $5k less than private party because it saved me $5k in taxes and made it so I didn't have to haggle with a bunch of scammers and tire kickers since sales tax is 10.1%+ here.

In Missouri a Bill of sale will get you a credit on sales tax.

If you sell your car after you buy a new one you have 180 days to request for a refund of the tax value of the vehicle you sell.

Thanks OP for creating this post. Through this, I have realized that Carvana is giving me a $3300 deduction because my truck was in an accident.....WHICH IT WAS NOT! I did however witness an accident in March. The officer on scene took my info and erroneously submitted my info to the insurance company. The insurance company opened a claim for me so when I received that claim notice, I called them and told them I did not have any damage and to close the claim and they obliged. Fortunately, I have all of the records and another fortunate coincidence, the person who was in the accident that I witnessed uses the same insurance company I do. So...I will be on the phone with my agent tomorrow and let them deal with the run-around internals I would undoubtedly been caught up in hours of explanation. If they cannot get the accident, that never happened! reporting off of my vehicle report, I'll have to seek diminished value.....for something that was never diminished. Ugh!

Yeah, never mind. If you’re into mods like that then it wouldn’t be worth it for you

Part of the draw for me is putting mine back to stock and selling all my mods for another few thousand. They are actually worth more off the truck than leaving them on.
