So i went through my local Touchless carwash today and when i pulled out to shammy the water off the truck i noticed that the black trim (rain channel???) on the driver side roof of the truck was hanging off.

From the looks of the piece it snaps in the channel in a couple of spots then is curved and glued at the back. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Is it easy to put the piece back on ?

If your talking about the channel where the roof rack mounts i've heard of them coming loose in the past....never had an issue personally.

I've heard many stories on TW about those coming off either while driving or during other times. I think it's fairly common. I'd try to stick it down and if it doesnt work, just remove both of them.

Personally, I think I will buy the OEM roof rack and remove them anyway.

I noticed the same problem when I was washing my truck the other week. The passengers side piece was loose/disconnected in the middle section.

I was able to pop it back into place, for now...

This for sure. I went through a touchless one once. Spent more time when I got home re-washing it to get all the water spots and wax deposits off.

To the OP, two sided tape that molding back down. (Toyota calls them 'roof ditch moldings' if you ever have to buy one)

Known issue...I've seen a tsb on it but its been too long.

Use 3M auto double sided tape and you should be good.

Thanks for the responses...i was going to wait to mention it to Toyota when i bring it in for the next service, but maybe i'll just 3M it down and call it a day.

And by the way they don't sell "flat Tacomas" in Canada...we have to buy the regular ones and flatten them our self :D

In Ontario they also have bagged milk(milk in a bag). I'm not surprised they have flat Taco's.

Like others have said there hasn't been much of an issue to when it comes to those coming off. Since that your truck is still very new, take it into the dealer and have them look at it. I would be concerned about using 3M tape because if water were to sit in there and get trapped, it might cause rust etc. Take it into the dealer and let us know what they say.

When I took mine off to install the roof rack, the entire ditch was painted and the threaded holes in the roof were sealed over with some kind of strong tape to keep the weather out.. he should be ok for water. The ditch moldings aren't supposed to be water-tight I don't think.
Either way, dealer should be able to help him out where it's so new.

I have 2500 miles on mine. lost the passenger side going down the highway. it smacked the side of the truck really nicely too. I'll be dropping it off to get that buffed out and have the TSB for the driveline vibration taken care of. This is the first Toyota I've owned that gave me trouble. I've owned quite a few.
