I've gone to this automated carwash for years, love the free vacuums. This is the first time anything like this has happened. The guy said in his 8 years there he's never seen that...

So they temp fixed with tape. There's an "investigation" to review camera footage and then a legit fix will take place (I'd imagine). Will keep you posted...

I hope they repair it properly for you but I notice most of those automated car washes have signs posted saying they are not responsible for any damage to your vehicle. Basically use at your own risk. I use them myself and did have an antenna break off recently which I had to replace at my expense. I am told the antenna break thing is pretty common. Now I remove the antenna before I run it through the wash.
Good luck to you, let us know how it turns out.

Hope they fix it for ya but yeah those car wash places will have a sign claiming no responsibility for it. Use at you own risk type of thing. They might check the video to see if it was done through a mechanical error but if the machine operated as intended they won’t fix it. I would save the headache and fix it myself. Just be more aware when using those places. Perhaps folding the mirrors in will help next time.

Sucks about your mirror but I wouldn't expect them to fix it. Had a similar experience at a Rocket Wash and they told me to pound sand (details here). "Warning" signs were blocked from my view on entry so I had no idea. Never again, touch free or handwash at home.

Wow that's pretty gnarly. As @Sprig mentioned, I see alot of those car washes in my area have that sign saying not responsible for any damages. Hopefully this one you went to doesn't have anything like that.

Take a moment before entering auto-scratcher to grind off the grit......remove antenna, fold the mirrors.

Accept a cash settlement, if you get one, do the repair yourself.

Having worked in car washes at a dealership it is usually wipers and antennas getting torn off. Mirrors are to be folded in before going through the brushes. Did they do that with yours? Antennas should also be removed. Most just screw on. Here in Ohio people like to oil spray their cars before winter. We refused to let those cars in the wash when we saw it because it messes up the brushes and contaminates the rinse water if its recycled. Also pisses off mechanics who have to work on those cars.

Unless the force came from above or below, the mirror should have folded (in either direction) before it broke.

Possible the plastic housing was weakened from UV exposure and this is why it broke that way.

Happens all the time of it not brushless. The long brushes(or as I call them sandpaper) will sometimes wrap around the mirror or get caught just right and break or tear them right off.

i always take the antenna off before going in

lost a passenger side molding before i knew it came off

wife had her rear wiper ripped off at one and told them about it, they were great about it. I ordered a replacement off rockauto, sent them the invoice, and they cut a check almost the same day.

so depends on the car wash operator

I signed up for a monthly subscription at a car wash and the first time I go through, I’m driving down the highway after leaving and I’m hearing slapping against my roof. Pulled over and the damn weather stripping was held in by the front most clip. They refunded me and cancelled the subscription but told me they weren’t liable for any damage. Hope it works out differently for you

Are they your stock mirrors? Just thinking if you had put on cheaper aftermarket mirrors and they aren’t as structural as oem
