HEY EVERYONE, I'M LOOKING AT BUYING A CVT, HAVE A COUPLE QUESTIONS. HOW DO YOU LIKE IT? HOW IS THE WATER PROOFING, OR DO I NEED TO WATERPROOF IT BEFORE I USE IT? IS ANY OTHER ADVICE OR ISSUES YOU HAVE? ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT! THANK YOU, JEFF

Hey Jeff, friendly heads up noticed your caps lock is stuck on, including your profile info.

To answer some of your questions, I love my CVT. The waterproofing is great, I recently stopped by Bobbys new shop and he told me he had a customer in SD that had 6.5" rain within 2 hours and stayed dry. If I recall correctly, (IIRC) I believe I read that it is suggested you get your tent wet and let it dry for the fabric to tighten.

The only issue I have had is with a little moisture under the bedding, put a blanket under there and had no issues but I plan on getting a moisture barrier for ease of mind. The only time I had moisture problems was when camping within 50ft of a lake/ocean with a pretty cold night.

you will need to air out the tent for a few hours to make sure its dry afterwords at some point. You do NOT want to store it wet for a long period of time.

    That was me.

Got enough rain to break the hoops - the tent just couldn't shed the water fast enough and it pooled. Got 6+ inches in ~2 hours. I was sure I was going to die of drowning there cowering in my truck. But the tent didn't leak.

I was on a hilltop in an amazing thunderstorm of biblical proportions with my tent deployed - and how I didn't get hit by lightning, I will never know. Me and the dog retreated to the truck cab when the storm blew in.

I wasn't going out in it to dump the roof panels - too much lightning even for my enormous testicles. Thing is, those large flat roofs will collect water if it comes down fast enough - if you can't be there to help dump the water, bad things will happen.

In this case, the bad things were far better than the possible alternatives. Bent aluminum you can fix. Electrocution 40 miles out in nowhere, not so much. Anyway, Bobby is committed to helping me get the tent fixed, so it's all good.

I love my CVT tent. Bad weather... well, that's fun, too. :D

Bent aluminum easy fix. After hearing of the story I had no worries about rain fall. Glad you remained safe.

You might want to check out this thread too - hoping everyone would chime in with their experiences and pros/cons about the tents.
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/product-reviews/280389-cascadia-vehicle-tents-roof-top-tents.html

Bobby said not to use any waterproofing spray, etc. on the tents. I did however put some on just the rainfly for peace of mind. I did not use it on the main body of the tent.

    what broke?

I haven't seen that amount of rain but I have ridden out some crazy storms in my tent this summer....been the story of my life this year! I think out of my 12 or so trips I've had 3 dry trips  Glad I'm not the only one who was concerned about lightning. I was out over the 4th of July and was @ 9,000 ft in the middle of some crazy lightning storms, strikes within 1/2 mile of me. That was pretty nerve wracking.

I went through a heavy Arizona Monsoon storm a few weeks ago. It seemed like it rained hard for half the night. Not one leak in my Tepui tent . The water pooled a little on the rain flys but nothing bent or leaked!

I called Bobby yesterday and ordered a 79" awning. He also said he's expecting some of the moisture mats to come in soon.

I've been kicking around doing the same thing. Just not a 79 inch one because I don't have a trail limo. ;)

79" is the middle size one. The smallest is 55" which isn't a whole lot of coverage in the rain

Plenty of coverage. My dad, little bro and i all stood under it easy. They extend out real far. Plus its just about perfect width for covering the rear tail gate of the truck for the kitchen :D haha

Lol nice pics. The places we camp and the rain we get, we'd all be soaked from the waist down, and we need room for more than a couple people under it, plus the ability to sty dry sitting in a chair. I always bring an Ez up awning too, but the cvt awning should be awesome.

yea the 55'' is perfect for 2 people. Maybe 3. But my rig only holds 2 so it fits me great :p haha id get a 76'' for the double cab though.

    either way..they are awesome.
