    Mathews Arm:

What a great weekend! Christie and I decided to head to the mtns for the long weekend on relatively short notice. We figured we'd try something new and headed up on Skyline Drive to Mathews Arm campground. It was a little iffy for us as with the long weekend we figured it would be packed. They had 40 reservable spaces all booked and 115 tent sites non- reservable so first come first served. We headed up as early as we could Friday to find it pretty well empty. This, of course, changed as the weekend progressed.
We had perhaps the easiest and quickest set up yet. The new jacks on the front really made levelling a breeze @Wild Crow and a much more stable setup. Everything settled in nicely and we decided to deploy all our equipment with the incoming weather. This all paid off in spades. We used everything. Even the bathroom a couple of times and the shower. It poured rain Friday night but we had everything protected.

The clouds and the rain rolled in on us Saturday afternoon and into the evening. While we watched everybody else scamper into their tents, hide in their cars, or even pack up in the rain and leave, we stayed high and dry. We had moved the new canopy right up next to the camper and the rear awning and for the first time installed the 2 wall sections we got for it. While most others were wet and miserable we remained dry and happy. We lit lanterns and played cards. The only thing that may have made it better would have been to have a little music, but we're working on that.

There were many hikeing trails which we didn't take advantage of. I wasn't too sure how the dog would handle it let alone my back and knees. I felt bad because I knew Christie wanted to go but I just wasn't sure I could do it. Next time I'll pull my big boy paints on and just do it.

Food was great, as usual, I swear we eat way better when we camp. Christie put together some great foil pack meals, I premade some breakfast stuff I could just heat up for breakfast burritos, and the last night I cooked fajitas over the fire.

Our little camp commander came with us. She starts a little nervous but relaxes after a day. She's funny becuase she's so different at camp. She usually barks at any dog or cat and chases squirrels but at camp she's quiet and stays right with us like she thinks we're going to leave her.

    My little goofy girl

We were pretty proud and happy with how it all went and how we handled it. We showed ourselves we could handle adverse conditions and flourish. We were self sufficient for power and even though I didn't pick the best spot for the solar it all worked out perfect. Our power, the equipment, the fridge, all our cooking equipment, everything worked out great! Hell we had to make ourselves come home and ready to go again!

    Happy camping!

If you and Beth haven't been there you might like it. Even if just a day trip they have a hikeing trail to a waterfall they said was beautiful
