No matter how the thread starts if it has anything to do with oil within 7 posts it becomes the 5k vs 10k thread. Even single time. I think this is the only thing relevant on TW when it comes to anything related to oil. Who is right and knows best. The 5ks are throwing piles of money out the window. The 10ks are destroying their engines. Never solves anything or goes anywhere but for some reason it’s always entertaining.

Alright already....we'll make oci's at 5k. Everyone is now a severe user, and abuser.

    Yeah.
I used Castrol for years, both traditional and synthetic. No issues, it's a great brand. Now I just use Supertech, OEM filters, and do annual changes. My truck sees the most miles of any of our vehicles, and I average about 6K miles per year.

I used to use Rotella Gas Truck and now use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, but I am switching to Amsoil next change.

Castrol Edge EP seems like pretty good oil from what I’ve seen. I am running Castrol Power1 in my Yamaha Tracer right now and it’s very smooth.

What's interesting (to me) are the number of people that say Toyota recommends 10K mile OCI. They are correct part way but seem to skip over that Toyota also recommends 5K mile OCI.

My dealer even said 10K mile OCI and when I asked isn't it depending on how I drive and use the truck......silence, and then "we go by the 10K mile OCI". OK.

No one is right, or wrong. I change mine at 5K because I fall into that category.

The manual is very clear what falls into the 5k OCI. Most people do not, but sure some do.

Mobil 1 rebate program is on for 2023.
Even though Walmart is not in "terms and conditions" list, the online submission form accepts Walmart.
My Walmart purchase was approved for $20 rebate.

It's always the 5K cult. Like the vegans of the autoworld. Always have to let everyone know:rolleyes: And when they post stupid made up pictures, one has to realize they actually believe it. Yikes.

I think we've gone backwards. I can recall toyota recommending oil change intervals at 7,500 miles back in the 90's, and that was with plain old dino oils. Today we have cleaner engines using the latest synthetics that don't break down from high temps like dino oils, yet people are changing their oil even sooner. Is it just here that happens, or is it the new norm?

It’s just a thing people on this forum like to go back and forth over. I have to go with the 5k guys. It may cost a few extra dollars but no engine in history has ever been damaged from clean oil.

Its oil it just needs to meet GF-5 specs. I run "bargain" oil on my truck. Sent a sample to Blackstone @ 5000 miles. They said I could have said the oil only had a few hundred miles on it and wouldn't have doubted it. They recommended doing at least 6500 mile intervals, so I wasn't wasting money on oil changes. Don't buy into the marketing BS, but hey if you got money to waste then go ahead.

These are interesting threads. Like groundhog day lol. Hey it’s your truck, do what you want. I’m one of those 5000 mile chumps. If my truck was a short timer, oil change intervals would be a non-issue. Change it whenever, pass it on to the next owner. Many talk about 300,000 mile trucks, but most seem to sale or trade in much sooner than that, in my experience. I only have 80000 on mine and have several veh’s and this one I plan on keeping for many more years. Just swapped out the pcv and it looked brand new. I run hot environments, az, tow and wheel the truck so 5 it is. 30 bucks and 20 mins every 5 thousand not a big deal for me. There are master techs out there that also recommend 5000 or 6mo’s for all toyo’s for those who plan on long term ownership. I am also one that feels ops choice of oil is just fine. Any modern spec oil will be good to go.
