Idk what can be referred to as short time, but I had a 19 year old newly 300k mile tundra with 15k mile synthetic oil changes thats still running fine today. I think we as Americans are on the wasteful side.

$40k-$60k trucks and people who stretch oil changes to 10-15-20k miles to save a few bucks?

I agree, cheap insurance in my book. But hey it’s America do as you will. I spent more money at a diner the other night at the diner than an oil change .So if I want to save some dollars ill eat home a few more times. Lol

15k-20k: i didn't see anyone saying they change that infrequently. just because bottle says 20K does not mean that is when they change it. It might be providing additional breakdown protection, though. both mileage and time wise.

10K: recommended by manufacturer under normal conditions.

5K: I bet these folks change their underwear more than once a week.

These manufactures do lab, and field tests on their synthetic oils before they hit the stores. I saw one of their videos where they punished a vehicle with a lot of city driving doing 10k mile oil changes, and after 250k miles, they tore the engine down, inspected all the parts for wear, and cleanliness. They found virtually zero. I think that might have been a mobil1 video.

10k oil change intervals are for smaller 3-4 cylinder engines that have less moving parts that don’t get idled for long periods and drive highway. A v6 has a much larger chain and way more many moving parts.it might have more oil but only by a .4 quarts more than the i4 2.7. (5.8 for the 2.7 i4 and 6.2 quarts for the 3.5 v6.). So just going off the engine displacement Vs. oil level the 4 cylinder technically could longer on OCI than the v6 Id say.

Well thats bs if I ever heard it. 4 cylinder engines carry less oil, tend to turn more rpm with oil migrating through it quicker getting dirty sooner. if anything they need a their oil changes sooner. V6 and v8's tend to work easier plus carry more oil than a 4. If anything a 6 should have cleaner oil, all things being equal.

It’s always an emotional argument. I just follow the manual’s recommendations. My last truck was a 6.7 diesel. It had an “intelligent oil life monitor” so it factored in operating conditions and told you when to change the oil. It was usually ~9-10k miles. That was with conventional oil, and with all the modern diesel issues like fuel dilution, soot loading, etc.

I drive my truck less than 6k per year so I usually just change once a year. Last UOA at 4.3k and 13 months was good, no fuel or water in the oil.

My truck is modded with lots of weight and is used for off roading. I keep the oil fresh with top shelf stuff.

If they turn more with RPM then it should be a cleaner combustion and the oil should stay clean longer

I'm a believer in the 5k oil changes. It's cheap insurance. Manufacturers claiming 10 k is to make you feel like there is less maintenance on the vehicle. Manufacturers also know that at 10k intervals the truck will make it to the end of warranty and after that they could care less. Do what you want and whatever makes you sleep at night.

All depends how an engine is tuned. There's a lot of variables.
