Ok, so I'm that dummy who drained his transmission while trying to change the oil. I went to Advance, and they looked up our truck and then had me buy Castrol transmax full synthetic multi vehicle ATF. I was looking for WS, they said this was the recommended fluid.

I replaced the 2.8 quarts that drained out with the Castrol. My truck has almost no records, several owners, and 175k. Warrantee probably isn't an issue, but I don't want to hurt anything.

How big a deal is this?

I guess my concern was the mix of WS and Castrol. I read on here that nothing is compatible with ws.

to me, since these aisin transmissions cost a good chunk of coin to refurb
(complete front-to-back bench refurb all clutches, bands, seals, and torque converter is $2000 easy
and that is if you are getting a hecka deal from a family friend)

vs the cost of a case of toyota WS and a few quarts at a time for drain and top-off

    but really

...castrol should be OK it just might not make the same MPG or shift exactly the same (may even shift better who knows) last as long as WS ...just change it often

as long as you are not putting water or coolant in the transmission, most fluids that say 'transmission fluid WS compatible' won't kill it, and can be flushed back to pure WS with no issues if you find it acts 'wonky' after using the other stuff

I queued up with Castrol about this product. They said it was WS compatible, but did not put that on the bottle as Toyota has only approved their WS fluid.

Interesting that Valvoline has WS on one of their products.
