I know there's more than a few "my cat got stolen" threads that end up with a few photos of people getting a shield installed, but not really one that talks about which shield to get and/or why.

For those of us who've installed a cat shield, would you care to share which one you shelled out money for any why you went with that particular fabricator/brand?

The cheapest one that's available. The thieves don't care what brand it is or whether it's aluminum or stainless. Their goal is to get it quickly and any shield will deter them and move on to the next target.

    I went with Talons garage.

most offerings seem to be about the same or similar designs and do the same job. Came down to price and shipping time. For me (might not happen for everyone depending on location) from order to delivery was 26 hours. Super happy with what I got

If the scrap yards would stop buying them from crackheads you wouldn't need a shield in the 1st place.

That's like asking companies to stop doing things like dumping garbage into the oceans even though the fine they get for doing so is pretty insignificant to the benefit they get from it.

MillerCat aluminum. As mentioned before, the thieves are going for a quick target unless it’s a isolated location then it doesn’t really matter as it’s just a deterrent not a vault.

    I agree.

Last time I took scrap metal from work I had to come back and get a letter saying I had permission to sell it on company letterhead. We got rid of a bunch of old fixtures we had. If they are concerned with a normal looking guy selling stuff, they should do it with everyone is all I'm saying.

Same. I like that it came with locking hardware included too.

I was gonna say maybe create a puddle under the truck, connect one lead of a taser gun to the cat pipes and put the other end in the puddle...

Toyota is now listing the MillerCat as a dealer install option. I'm going to install myself, but being a factory option, the dealer mechanics should be more comfortable with them should they need to be pulled for repairs.

Cat theft is picking up in my area. Brother-in-law just had the cats stolen of his new Expedition.

I'd say any you find at a local junkyard since it will likely be a lot cheaper than anything you could buy from a company plus you can evaluate how well it protected the cats ;)

People used to hook up the positive side of the battery to an ignition coil (think 50s-60s era car coils) and let Darwin deal with the offender.

I went with Talon’s Garage since they are active on here and small business. Their shield is nice thicc aluminum and you can order security bolts as well.

These days you'd probably get sued by doing that... though I'm pretty sure most of us (especially those of us that this has happened to) would say something like this would be justice served.

I got the Miller stainless steel. Fast shipping, security hardware included, and install took about 20 minutes or so.

Lots of tweakers here in CA and even leaving the truck parked at our local shopping center invites theft. Bastards... useless thieving bastards.

Same for me I was planning on getting the RCI skids so when they started the CAT protection it was an easy decision. I think it really depends on if you already have skid plates and/or are planning to get some. I imagine we will see the CAT protection as an option for most of the skid manufacturers before too long. Otherwise, you have a number of good quality dedicated CAT protection options that have been mentioned as well. Sad we even have to think about it but we do!
