    Hi all,
I’m having issues with a pice of my cat’s heart shield rattling. It has two bolt holes (?) I assume to secure it in place, but nothing to bolt it to… it just floats freely and is kinda retained by the other shield piece below it, but allowed to move around.

my question is, what is this thing supposed to be secured to? Or if it’s just pressed in place, what have others done?

    cheers

That is a 2 PIECE heat shield.

2 bolt/nut (one each side) and a stainless steel clamp around the end to clamp it against the exhaust pipe. It more or less mounts to itself.

In the top half of your picture.....to the left of your circle. There are bolt locations for the 2 halves of the heat shield. Look beside the rectangle cut out....

Thanks, I tried moving it and it didn’t seem to want to move far enough to align with those holes, though they seemed like the logical spot for it.

not sure how both bolts came undone…

No. You don't align what you have circled.

The heat shield is a clamshell. Just squeeze it together. The two holes to the left of your circle are the matching holes for a bolt/nut. There will be another on the opposite side. Where the heat shield meets the exhaust pipe is the place for the SS band clamp.

Heat cycles and vibration will loosen fasteners.
