    Hello Tacomanites,

I live in Houston and the worms of the world are stealing the heck out of Toyota catalytic converters here. I take the park and ride into downtown for work daily and after arriving to the lot after work one afternoon, a fellow rider started up his Tundra and it sounded like an M60 Main Battle Tank. I work for the City of Houston and the vast majority of our fleet Prius have been hit. Are our converters just as easy to snatch up? Looks like they're recessed a bit, but of course if they want it bad enough, it's gone. Has any of you dealt with this or had yours taken. Any good deterrents out there?

    Thanks,

Cat strap with the sonic alarm kit is what I would do in your situation. The expensive cats are in the engine bay near the headers, but that wouldn't stop a dumb thief from taking the lower cats.

Is there any easy solution to prevent theft, welded brace of some sort? or would they just cut through that as well?

There's a guy on FB marketplace here in HI that advertises to buy cats, he's new in town and by the looks of it he used to buy cats back in Maine... It just gives the scum ideas on how to make a few bucks and piss a lot of people off. I guess we are going to be having a problem here soon too.

Friends in Denver say it's a huge problem there along with stealing the spare tyre!

They generally use a battery powered sawzall.. less then a minute and they are under out and gone.
