There have been a rash of catalytic converter thefts in my neighborhood. I've seen a few of the commercially available cat locks and they all seem pretty ineffective. Anybody got any ideas besides parking in a well lit spot?

The title should be Cat Thefts. Mods, please change if possible.

You can change the title yourself. Look for the Thread Tools just above your 1st Post on the right.

Especially nowadays where they're completely battery powered with high speed and torque with available options to change the angle as well.

And with special metal cutting blades, the options are limitless. Only real thing you can do is get a 24/7 dash cam and/or surveillance for your home in hopes to at least catch the crooks.

Even with that there's nothing you can do. You going to murder someone for stealing? I will admit I am not familiar with laws in all states. But in CA I'd be the one getting judged for that.

Absolutely, whenever I encounter one of those colorful plastic puzzle toys I get so distracted and absorbed I completely forget what I came to do!

Also most people don't walk around with their ARs strapped to them when visiting their mums. Best case is that it's mounted in the vehicle somewhere. So even if you caught someone in the act, they will have the higher ground or they will, like you said be gone before you notice.

You could put a urd y pipe on the truck, it removes the cats and will confuse the theft. Problem solved. Or sit and wait and when they do show up shoot him the ass with a high powered pellet gun and the hide and act like nothing ever happened.

dont even need a sawzall. simple cable saw works

But if youre super concerned about this. Take a thick wide rubber mat (maybe a truck bed mat or something larger), bolt a metal box to it that's big enough to eat up some space under the truck. Park the car so the tires are on the mat. Maybe if you make it difficult for them to get under the truck it would help.

A friend had the cats stolen from both of his cars (Sequoia/Pilot from his driveway in a good neighborhood), TWICE in the same year. He eventually moved but we talked about doing this at one time. In the end, nothing can really stop the determined (except maybe that AR @Ronzio has)

Fill it with flash powder. One spark and they won't be stealing anything again.

And when you start the truck in the morning, just tell the neighbors you have a rich fuel mixture problem with the truck when you hear a bang.

i had a shop make a plate that installs with fasteners that regular tools can't remove and had additional plates welded to where theres no way the cats can be removed... also, i wrapped the sensor wires with some heat shield material. This has been on the truck now for over 10 years without issues.
