Unfortunately, it may. My aunt had a cat that liked to crawl into the fan shroud. The Second time it got caught when the car was started, it ended up losing all but a stump of its tail. It was also covered in its own feces. The car had air conditioning and a clutch fan, which is probably why the cat survived at all.

Cats (especially feral ones that live outdoors) are always on edge and will bolt at the slightest sudden sound/movement...knocking your hand on the fender/hood once or twice will scare them off. If not for the sake of the cat then for the sake of not needing to clean up a bloody/furry mess from your engine bay or wheel wells.

Cats won't really harm your truck. They are only seeking warmth and not food (like mice). A fan belt or blade will cripple a cat pretty fast though. My neighbor's cat does this in the winter. I just thump my palm against the front quarter panel and it usually takes off.

I would rather have a cat than mice.

Yeah, my cat in the engine compartment story didn't end so well. A momma cat hid her kittens in the fan :(

Cats are just looking for somewhere warm to rest or a place to hide, rats are the little fuckers that like to chew on wires. I've seen some really expensive damage happen from rats and mice getting into someone's engine bay, it 'aint pretty.

Should do what some wineries in CA's central valley do....get a hawk and train it to treat your property like it's territory and no animal (cat or mouse) will dare come near it. At least not after word gets out from the first one that tries lol

I bet if anyone even suggested doing that to a dog, they would be lambasted endlessly.

I see now why you're on the short list of those who are former TW members.

The cat will probably associate your truck with pain/fear and stay clear from here on out.

I keep an old margarine container with moth balls in it right where I pull in, centers on the engine. They don't seem to like the smell and stay away. I also sprinkle them around my flower pots to deter them.

No, I don't know which species of moths work best and were to get them castrated.....

Given my recent three month battle with the idiot kids cat three doors down, I can tell you, most cats are not stupid.

They decided to allow their middle age cat to become an out door cat, rather then have it's UTI and or Diabetic issue treated and forced it to live outside. Not only did the damn cat try to get into everyone's door but it crawled up their tires and even attempted to get into the doctors office across the parking lot.

You have a 2016. I'm going to guess you likely have a key fob? Setting off the horn a few times also works, if you don't want to get near the cat.

Over the course of a few weeks, all it took was yelling "No!" at the cat and he would sulk off. No need for any of this bullshit about lye.

Additionally... watching your father kill your pet in front of you doesn't necessarily fuck you up for life.

    Best of luck.

Mr. moderator sir you had me feeling down with your statement that I allowed the devil to join in and beat me down yesterday evening. Let me tell you something sir. Those so called "Former members" that you speak of have the same access to the ignore feature on this site as I do. If those so called former members or any active members do not want to read my posts please feel free to add me to your ignore list and I will have no hard feelings. Have a good day sir moderator.

Plus those former members that you speak of probably moved on to another manufacture. These Tacoma's are not liked by everyone.

I wouldn't worry too much about sensors or connections, cats are pretty graceful. And they will keep the mice out. They won't chew up wiring either. Cats are dicks, but they won't harm your vehicle, unless they piss in it.

Thanks Lance. I was surprised the cat never pulled a wire or something off when he was getting thrashed around under my hood. All seems to be running fine.
