Im looking to buy a catalytic shield for my 2nd gen 2wd. So far i only know two brands CCM & Talons Garage. Im leaning towards Talons garage because its thicker (1/4) while CCM is 1/8. What are you guys using? or are they other brands out there? before making this big purchase.
    Thanks.

CatShield/MillerCat also makes one. I saw one for sale here on TW recently. I installed one on a friend's Prius and quality was good.

Personally I don't think you need a lot of thickness here. In most areas with a lot of theft the thieves are opportunists and not looking to make their job harder. If they peek under your car and see a shield they'll almost certainly just move on and drive two houses down or a block over to the next Prius/Tacoma.

You should have seen when they boasted that their 2nd gen cat shields are the best in the market without having ever developed one.

I would go with CCM as theirs covers your shield alot better than talon. I would love talon since I do go a bit off roading with my prerunner on construction sites due to work, but it has some flaws where thief's can still cut past the shield due to it not covering some areas. Someone did post talon is working on a solution to this flaw but we don't know if it will make it to the market. The 1/8 aluminum alloy should be enough for your needs since it is only a 2wd.

We reached out to the individual who had the issue and made a redesign and sent him some new wings to help the issue. Those new wings that increase the coverage started shipping this week.

At talons garage we are not perfect, and we don’t claim our product is perfect, but we truly care about our customers, and trying to help them rest at ease. When we were both in grad school we were the victims of theft and know how horrible the feeling of vulnerability is. My wife and I are not engineers, and we do not have experience in manufacturing. This is my hobby that is turning into something bigger. We try to give the best product we can at the best price we can. We are both nurses by trade, and we are very caring individuals. We really care about our customers and try to make everything right to the best of our abilities.

Well you just changed my mind on what I'm getting now if that mod started shipping this week.

I need to get some new photos of it, and some good installed photos. It is a little shorter than the ones he posted just because I made that one way to long that I sent him.

I really need to look at buying a Tacoma so I can start doing a few other things I want to :p, and not feel rushed having someone truck at my shop :p

I actually ordered from RCI over the weekend with the Memorial Day Sale of 15% off. I've been eyeing this skid plate for quite sometime and now with the increase in cats being stolen, I had to pull the trigger on this. It will give me the piece of mind. I wanted to double down as it is an actual transmission skid plate and everything comes powdercoated black.

I ended up paying $385 shipped to my door in Socal.

    https://rcimetalworks.com

I just checked the website right now and the sale is still on!

It should be the same for 2WD and 4WD models.

    Not sure of the differences.
The link states that one is for a 2WD. The picture is the 4WD version on my truck.
Edit... Looking at the video in that link and a youtube video of a 2WD plate i think your right... the one pictured in the link looks like the 4WD model.... kind of confusing.

They might be selling the 4wd model of the shield as 2wd which if that is the case then they are in for some angry customers that order from them. The difference is in the bolting position on where they mount on the transmission bracket. Also the position of where the transmission bracket sits on the 2wd is about an inch or two closer to the engine than the 4wd since it doesn't need to account for the transfer case so the plate is shorter in the 2wd.

I'm thinking it's like other sites i've been on where the product pictured is different than what they're selling... best to contact them before ordering.
