still waiting for my parts. Dealership ordered them bout a week and half ago even before I got my letter. Got my letter couple days ago. Not in a rush, since they already replaced that cat/exhaust pipe 4 months ago for the same rattling issue. But they said they will still replace it again

    From Toyota;

    "
    Description

In the subject vehicles the front catalytic converter internal components may become deteriorated and begin to rattle. If continually operated in this condition, the deteriorated components could become dislodged and restrict the exhaust flow. If this occurs, the vehicle may illuminate a check engine light, and, depending on the level of exhaust restriction, the vehicle may experience a reduction in power. Toyota has developed a new exhaust pipe with catalytic converters to prevent this condition from occurring.

    Remedy

Authorized Toyota dealerships are requested to replace the exhaust pipe with catalytic converters at NO CHARGE to the vehicle's owner. The owner notification will commence in Early November, 2015.

Here's a question. I just put an AFE catback on a couple of weeks ago at 42,000 miles to try to open 'er up a little. Before I schedule the replacement should I put the OEM back on? I kept it. I wonder if the dealership will try to wiggle out of the free replacement by saying I altered the exhaust. It's out of warranty so they shouldn't have an argument but I am conerned about that. Any thoughts? Thanks!!

I had someone cut my oem muffler long time ago and my dealer knows I have an after market dynomax muffler welded on. My service advisor doesn't seem to care.

Thanks. I hope not. As it is after the cat, I don't think it should either. But dealers can be slippery on occasion.

Parts that will be replaced are in the diagram #7 plus #8 & #11. If the flange between #7 & #10 has been cut off for aftermarket (welded), flange on #7 will have to be modified to fit "#10" non-OEM. Otherwise, it's 'plug-n-play'.

^You're good to go. Should only take 10-20 min. to do the "actual" work.

Just took mine in yesterday. Took a week for parts to get in and about 2 hours of waiting at the dealership. Same results as most everyone on here, new catalytic converter an section of pipe, no difference in performance / operation of truck.

I'm not going to name the dealership I had this done with, but they went out of their way to encourage me to use another dealer. They stated it would take far longer to get the parts in and also how long it would take to get done. Kinda odd, the parts came in a week and it was done fairly quickly. Not sure why the push to get me to take my business elsewhere, do dealers typically behave this way when doing recall work?

Might try a different one. When I scheduled mine, one service advisor said that the parts weren't available so I had to wait a week. A week goes by I hear nothing, so I talked to another service advisor and whatdayaknow, they had parts all along. Perhaps they don't make as much commission so they don't put in as much effort.

That's a fact. Two friends of mine used to work for Toyota and Kia dealerships and they told me dealerships get paid less when they do warranty work. But Ive known my service advisor for years now and have always taken care of us. I called another dealer in town and they said nothing in stock either. I called Toyota just to vent and tell them why they are so unprepared, sending out letters only to find out that they don't have these parts waiting when customers with these letters start coming in. My service advisor told me they have 38 on order and hopefully he'll have mine next week :fingerscrossed:

As the end user and payment maker on the vehicle and repairs .... I really don't care, I want my vehicle fixed. I have rarely seen any Toyota Dealerships go to receivership.

I got the notice from Toyota and set it aside until I could take care of it. My dealer called me within a week and asked if I was going to have the work done there, so he could order the part. The part came in quickly, and I set up the service for New Year's Eve, after work. It took a little under an hour.

The truck has a "hot" smell which will go away.

Nobody in the waiting room was talking continuously (or talking at all) on their cell phone, and nobody was suffering from the plague, so that was nice.

I had mine done a few weeks ago, with 0 drama. They also inspected rear springs, and found no cracks/fractures.No word yet on replacement springs yet.I am going with a helper spring until final notice for replacement comes it.They worked well when installed on my old 1999.My frame also checked out fine with very little rust(CorrosionX works great).
