Well it happened! Got one of my CATs sawed off while I was at work - truck was parked in a pay parking lot!!!! What a nightmare!!!

Anyway, truck is the Toyota dealership getting repaired and insurance is covering it.. minus my $300 delectable. ouch but could have been worse.

Has anyone got the CatClamp - standard kit installed on their 3rd gen Tacoma? Toyota is saying that is not going to work in my truck, as there is no where ideal to wrap the cables around in the front... the back is fine.

    https://www.amazon.com/CatClamp-Standard-Kit/dp/B00HPZTCMA

Trying to find a skid plate that would cover the cats but I can not find one - thoughts?

I would like to keep the TRD front skid plate if possible.

appreciate the help.... kind of desperate here as there has been rash of thefts going on right now for catalytic converters.

Was it the cat after the downstream O2 sensor, or was it the manifold cat?

That sucks. I wouldn’t waste your money with that CatClamp though, they’ll cut around it or cut the cables too. A cordless sawzall would have it all off in a couple of minutes. Somekind of skid plate and a better parking lot would be a better option.

Just put a new one in and dont worry about it. You could spend $5000 on security stuff for your truck and instead of stealing your catalytic converter or radio the junkies will just back up to it with a tow truck or slash the tires. That why you have insurance.
I do remember a thread where a guy had a muffler shop weld on 3/8 round rod or something similar all along his exhaust so it'd be a bitch to cut with a sawzall.

Maybe if you really wanted something you could loop a very small steel cable somewhere on the heat shield and then attach the cable nearby to the frame. I think even a small cable would be hard to cut with a sawzall. It would cost almost nothing. They go for easy targets so something slowing them down might make them move on

Wow that really sucks, they moved the Converters up to prevent theft too, sounds like some larger skid plates would be the way to go.

Get a parameter alarm. Anyone who comes within 3 feet of the vehicle it first starts with a verbal warning. 5 seconds later all hell breaks loose. Wire it up to train horns. Sorry that happened to your truck.

I had one on a Jeep. I would sometimes come back and it would give me 4 or 5 chirps letting me know it went off. Nothing was ever stolen from the vehicle, not even the soft doors.

$300 deductible isn't so bad when you look at the price of an OEM cat...for my 04 I was quoted $3k to install 2 new OEM ones.

Get a steel skid, thieves will see it and move to an easier target.

    Ouch. Sorry to hear.

I've always worried about this happening to my lifted trucks.

It's a very sickening feeling but it sounds like you are dealing well which is the only thing you can do at this point. If you didn't let it ruin your day, then you won.

$300 is a bite, but it will come back to you some how, some way.

Mine was stolen when I lived in San Francisco. Went aftermarket. $250 installed for the downstream cat.
