I live in a fairly rural area went out to start my truck this morning and saw someone roll out from under my truck. I yelled at the person and ran after him but let's just say I wasn't warring the right attire for a high speed foot pursuit. Anyway a new cat is just out of my budget at this time. Question is if someone in this position was to put a straight pipe in it's place would it damage anything ? What about not having 02 sensors ?

Someone just had this happen to them a few days/weeks ago. Use the search function.

I think I remember them saying that your insurance might cover part/all of it (might).

Some one rolled out from under your truck - I carry and would still freak a bit considering a have a mild lift and can usually see a good portion under my truck.

should have run over his ass ....

anyway - best of luck - call insurance.

depends on where you live as far as emissions.

The point of a CAT is to burn unburn fuel vapors and the O2 sensor determines how well the CAT is doing it's job. The O2 sensor also communicates with the ECM to "tune" the fuel levels based on current RPM, Air across the MAF, injector duty cycles, etc.

So no, save the straight pipe for the V8 & carb & SAS conversion.

You would need an O2 simulator but yes you could put a straight pipe in so long as your state does not do visual inspections.

    *I am a non-attorney spokesman

Of course you will only use this truck off-road. LOL

The p.o.s cut it off before the front o2 sensor so that's more $ down the drain. Although it did find the 78 cents that fell out of his pocket while he was cutting.

Call insurance and since you're rural, maybe a nearby convenience store or gas station caught this guy on camera around the time he high tailed it?

I would put in an aftermarket cat and buy a URD o2 simulator to make the computer think its up to par. This will keep your truck running like stock.

With no 02 sensors and a straight pipe your truck will run like shit. Bad mpgs lacking of power. You comp will put you in limp mode. It may not fuck anything up permantly but its better to fix it sooner than later.

Update. Drove truck to a local muffler shop had a pipe put where the cat. was and a o2 sensor replaced. 300 miles and no issues so far except p0420 code from not having a cat. ( had that before it was stolen). Mph seems to not have changed and truck is still super quite. Seems to run better as well. Oh and it just rolled over to 100k not bad for a 97 lol.

That's great man. Maybe your cat was a little clogged before. I will do same thing when mine goes. Thanks for ending.
