Just a stupid idea... Maybe a hydraulic kit for truck/suv? The one that lower and raise your car. As soon as you hit the lock button, the car lower flat to the ground. As soon as you hit the unlock, it raise your up. Imagine they have such kit for cars...

They'll just jack it up. They jack up Priuses to get at their cats. And they're super fast.

I like the idea of a skid plate with the cat protection designed by and built in from the fabricator.

Maybe I'll finally buy an aftermarket skid plate if I can justify it that way...;-] Babe, it's to protect that cat! No, not our cat, she's fine. The Truck Cat.

No way! I'm just being silly lol.
Yeah, this probably the most useful idea. Nothing is theft proof, but for sure it will slow them down.

I just had the cat stolen off one of my fleet trucks, a Dodge 4500 with a hemi in it. Going to cost us $4,100 to have it replaced. They came on federal property to steal it with cameras present. If they are willing to do that, nothing is safe...

Agreed. Years ago I had some tools and other stuff stolen from my work truck parked in a local, (small) town, public library parking lot. The theft was recorded on the library’s video security cameras. The police wouldn’t share the video with me (due to “policy”) but they watched it and said they didn’t recognize the thieves so there was nothing they could do......
To this day, I still support the police, but this made me realize that even in a small town, you’ve gotta do what you can to protect your own shit.
A cheap, $100 dollar trans skid plate and another $60 or $70 bucks spent on side wings at a welding shop is well worth the peace of mind and hassle of having your Cats stolen, IMO.

Looks like the folks at getcatsecurity responded to my request by posting their “HD upgrade”… up from 1/8” to 3/16” aluminum.

I'm really thankful my local crackheads haven't figured out that cats are valuable...

    Any thoughts about the Catstrap?

Thinking of painting my cat and using that in conjunction.

I know it won’t be 100% theft proof but I am hoping it’ll be enough of a deterrent and it appears to be a lot easier to install than the cat clamp wire cage.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Thief hit one of my work vans a month ago, but apparently snapped the blade off his Sawzall and only managed to get partway through the pipe in front of the cat. Had to replace the entire side (no idea why they couldn't just weld it) to the tune of $1,800. Insurance covered $800 ($1000 deductible). I asked the insurance Co if I could have the old cats and they said sure so I took them to the local scrap yard and got $200 for them.

I own a fabrication shop. We were contracted to replace stolen cats from a dealerships used inventory, about 25 of them. All of them were Tundras not a single Tacoma. Tundras have 4 highly accessible cats.

I haven’t looked under my new Tacoma but I will when I get a chance. I’ll see what I can whip up.

An aftermarket EPA approved cat is as low as $120. Weld labor $200 or less. For $1800 the muffler shop is the real thief here.

Maybe engraving / etching the CATs with the word "Stolen" in large letters would be a deterrence?

Just seal weld a 4x8 foot, quarter inch steel plate to the rock sliders. That'll probably make it too difficult for thieves.

At least here in Houston but from what I hear it's happening everywhere. When my friend who had his stolen went to the dealer to have it replaced there were 11 other trucks in line in front of him who had had theirs stolen. When we had the big freeze that shut everything down for a few days back in February, someone got the cats off of all of the trucks at the local Toyota dealer. Since my original post, another of my friends has had his stolen too.
