Call local scrap yards. In pa they are required to get ID from the folks selling the catalytic converters.

For those wondering about painting the cats. spray some high temp red stripes on it, and that usually is enough to deter thieves from taking them... they know many yards wont take painted cats.

This maybe a stupid question but isn’t the Cat up higher on the exhaust manifold? Is the part that was stolen the resonator?

The more expensive 1st cats are but the secondary ones are easier to steal.

Ok, so I was thinking that possibly. It’s hard to tell on images what I’m missing. 02 sensor was definitely there though cause they cut the wire loom

Cat theft is legal in most places now. Police won't waste their time when the DA refuses to prosecute. They won't even lock up violent criminals these days let alone cat thieves and the thieves know it.

Only the harness for the 02 was cut. The connection for it is higher up.

Took the family to Great Wolf Lodge in the Tundra and some low life piece of sh** took all 4 cats off of my tundra and cut o2 wiring. That truck was so dam loud it was incredible felt like I was at Monster Jam! Luckily the harness connections for the o2 probes are still good. Took it to Toyota and was quoted $5400 and 2-3 month wait for back ordered parts (cats). Told Toyota I don’t have time for that so got with insurance and am taking to a muffler shop in the area who is going to get me back up and running. What a pain in the ass. Probably going to have a buddy weld some bars across them to help deter future thefts.

    It's complicated.
    Damn man, I'm sorry.

Some people really should be forcibly removed from this earth!

Damn bruh! My total was 2200 and it was only a single cat and 2 harnesses. Luckily they had a cat in stock. Had to wait 7 days for a harness to arrive.

I would imagine the police and the scrap shops had a chat and came up with a solution.

Thankfully the city I live in still takes it seriously and just caught a ring of thieves last month when someone called the PD in the middle of the night because they heard a Sawzall running. Our DA in OC is known for being very tough on crime.

I understand the theory behind painting cats or etching a VIN on them, but I don’t think it’ll deter many thieves.
They’ll cut it off anyway and without much effort, just wire-brush/grind the paint/VIN off.....or spray paint over the bright colour......or take it to one of the many sketchy buyers who don’t care if it’s coloured or etched and they’ll do the removing....
Hard to remove skid plates are still the best choice IMO.
