A little something every chance we get.
Yup. A good cookie indeed! Have it your way, and do what you want. I see no losers here. If the naysayers haven't wasted $40 on SOMETHING questionable along the line, I'd be surprised! And vice versa too!

Yeah. Our turbo saab and volvo had them. The factory was on version seven or so for the saab and they still weren't happy with it.

The original owner of the volvo used dino oil. So, we had problems with the breather system later in life.

Turbos are a very different beast when it come to crankcase breathing though.

I don't know where the PCV is off hand on the V6 trucks but the way it hooks up is very simple.

Output of PCV valve hooks to IN on catch can, OUT on catch can goes to intake manifold where the original PCV hose was plumbed to.

Basically you are just intercepting the flow of blowby gasses and catching them.

Sound easy IF the invisible PCV reveals itself. Also keep the PCV right? I don't see the point of remove it.

Definitely keep the valve- it's a check valve so you don't suck things in.

Also shouldn't there be a vacuum diagram under the hood somewhere (on a big sticker) that shows you where the PCV is, or have we stopped doing that...

pvc is there and not easy to see. Place your hand on the hose in the diagram I posted and follow it. Basically it on the drivers side at the back of the motor. Its a bit of a pita to get the new hose on the pvc valve due to its location. Lube up the inside of the hose and ram it on, ha - that what she said:censored:

Definitely would not use VW venturi PVC filters as an example of successful OEM “catch cans”... Some of the worst issues with carbon build-up on intake valves experienced by any manufacturer.

A big issue for DI motors, but the very reason why Toyota went with the DI / port injection combo...

Wonder the proportion of water to oil in that catch can?

I think the need for catch cans has grown, Engines now use ultra thin Oil and Low Tension Rings for better fuel economy but a side effect would be blow by.

Another good point... but on the flip side, wouldn't 0w20 synthetic be the least prone to making gnarly deposits? Low viscosity and very little "funk" in the base oil stock to turn into a deposit.

This thread is actually turning out to be a lot more thought provoking than I expected.

This may have been touched on already, but would having a catch can cause any issues warranty wise?

I don't see why it would cause any warranty issues, but it looks easy enough to remove if you felt so inclined to before dealer service.

On most direct injection engines I would want a catch can since lack of port injection creates a valve issue. On ours, Toyota remedied that with the D4S port injection feature. Nice to keep the intake side clean, but not really going to do much with port injection cleaning, IMO.

I ran a Provent 200 on my '94 K2500 Suburban 6.5 Turbo Diesel so the cold side of the turbo got the least amount of blowby going into the intake. It worked.

Do the catch can help mitigate tailpipe smoke when driving up a steep grade (4x4 off-road situation)?
