That's exactly what I would do with mine. I like this.

If i could get a police scanner I would put the scanner in the radio spot and the CB in the ashtray location.

CB's are great. I am also eventually going to get a 2m/70cm radio this summer for longer range communications.

I have a Cobra 19. It's extremely small and doesn't interfere with the passenger leg area at all. As with most of the tools I carry in my truck, I'd rather have it and never need it than need it and not have it. It's extremely useful for avoiding accidents on the highway and good for the trails.

My latest setup is a cobra 18 with a little wil magnet mount. Not the best setup, but was about $100. The 18 fits perfect between the console and the drivers seat, no mounting at all just slides in. I use mine for traffic reports from truckers and it has saved me from being stuck in a traffic jam numerous times. I also have about 5 locals that I BS with all the time. Find your channel and have some fun! I love my CB and will always have one in my truck.

No! I love my CB, had one in every vehicle for years. They are seriously helpful in really bad weather. I got caught in a blizzzard cutting up through Ohio once. I bet we saw 50 ppl in the ditch. They would fly by and we would pass them sitting on the side of the road flipped or stuck one. I just stayed in touch with the truckers and we got there safe & sound. It is great fro trail rides as well, keeping in touch is key on large rides. I use a Cobra 75, its small remote mount setup rally makes it useful. The antenna is what can get tricky.

cheap, but my motorola radios have better distance (than actual cb's in buddies trucks when in the woods) and are much more flexible.

I suppose some walkie talkies don't work with others. But for 100 bucks you can get a handful of em and pass em out.

Bump... I have ordered and am waiting on this magnetic mount antenna and a Uniden BC355c scanner to be shipped to me :D Much much thanks to ridgerunner for all his help with steering me in the right direction and answering a ton of questions through PMs.

I decided to go with the scanner because I think in the long run I'm more interested in listening to leo radio comms than the CB. Besides, this system will still pick up CB channels, i just cant transmit on them. Thats fine cuz ive never really needed CB anyways, I just liked being able to listen to trucks on the highway.

    Yeeeeee!

Also i got bored and redid my sig pic with photoshop, if anyone wants one let me know and send me some good pics. Derailing my own thread here haha.

I use a portable for trips..better than a radar detector to hear where the "bears" are and traffic updates
