I was reading that the coil (makes the antenna 102") needs to be above the cab for the best results...

Bottom load like magnet mounts or wilson 1000
    center load
or top load like a fiberglass antenna.

    a stainless whip sounds like a bottom load:cool: unless it's just a 102" whip.

I will have some pictures up this weekend. I got a Cobra 75 WXST. I just put in a pioneer 8400 so the double din didn't allow me to keep the larger unit. I have been wanting to get a 75WXST for a while now.

Nice setup. I see your from Mobile. I am from down that way. I grew up in Mississippi in a little town called Kiln just west of Gulfport. I miss it down there.

I upgraded my radio to a Pioneer AVH-8400BH and with it being a double DIN, it gave me the excuse to go ahead and get a Cobra 75WXST CB radio. I also moved around a few items and cleaned everything up a bit.

First photo is my old setup.

    screen-capture_4e5fbec7198109be8be35fc1160c7db03a5776fa.jpg

This is the new setup. I wanted everything within plain view for the driver.

    _DSC2065_1212c73ff88a9ed770c7e7d489c51fe29b4e2f5b.jpg

The 75WXST was mounted next to the Garmin GPS. I used a piece of flat metal from the hardware store and mounted the mic holder up.

    _DSC2071_73b6438c73219d53cbeaa57151aae8f25b85f682.jpg

The Yaesu was also moved up on top of the steering column. I used two l-brackets that costed $.60 from Lowes and painted them black. For the mic, I put velcro on the back and mounted a velcro strip below the AC controls.

Here you can see the velcro strip and the super nice 8400BH. THe velcro strip also covers up some holes that were drilled into the plastic. Overall, I am loving the new setup.

Front of plate with the mic holder for the 75WXST. The mic holder I got off of ebay. The mic won't fall out when you are out on the trails with this holder.

    And here is the back.

Winch, front hitch, step bars, bed extender, bed step, gull-wing toolbox, tailgate lock, security system, cb radio, etc.
Good answer, Mitch. However, I think he was talking about having the radio tuned for frequency accuracy, not SWR antenna adjustments. Many seek to have their radios peaked (power & modulation) and tuned (frequency accuracy) during, or shortly after, purchase. Since the benefits are minimal, I usually don't waste time with such adjustments.

Got a quick question. I was planning on mounting my antenna using a door jamb mount but have it coming out of the tailgate. I noticed that there is a little lip behind the tailgate. Does anyone have any idea how I can use this mount? I need to get rid of that lip but not sure how to do it. Any pics would be a great help also. Thanks guys.

I've got a question as well and thought this would be the best place for it....

I'm about to buy the Cobra 25LX but need to decide what antenna to buy. I'm a newb with all this and I can't find any info on what antenna would be best. There are mag mount, metal coil, and fiberglass....what would be better?? I kinda want to stay away from the mag mount since I already have a mount for it in the bed. Any suggestions??

Go with a fiberglass being a top load antenna, you want the coil above the roof line.

THIS may be a good option.
