    I got it from rightchannelradios.com
Make sure you get a heavy duty spring for it. I had a medium spring and the antenna was bouncing off my windshield on the highway. The HD stiffens it right up with enough give when you hit obstacles.

(I'm digging the James May icon, BTW)

I have a cobra 29ltd classic with bigger galaxy finals and a connex board(echo and reverb) I run that threw a 200 watt kicker and out a Wilson magnet mount antenna. I have 3 different astatic mic's. My favorite being a camo edition noise canceling mic.
I have my radio mounted under the driver seat with an external speaker mounted in the cubby in front of the cup holders. My mic hangs from a gear keeper that's hooked to the rear view mirror for easy access.

It fits farther back if you buy an L-joint for the coax cable. Thats what I did.

Hard to tell from the pic, but the front of the CB sits flush with the radio trim face.

Thanks man that is a great set up. Looks really clean. Is that a bracket that is holding the CB in there or do you just slide it in?

Yup I put the right angle connector also, mine is nearly flush. I just made a custom bracket and didn't want to re mount after I was done. I could have slide it back a bit.

Some good ideas out there. Thanks for all the input guys. Nolawall, what is it about the DXIV that you like so much more than the previous units owned?

The cobra 19DXIV was one that i used when I did alot of trail riding when i had my jeep. The biggest thing was when i got it peaked and tuned it ran at a higher power than all the CB its size. The PA system was outstanding for whatever i needed it for at the time. It also took abouse. My jeep got wet lots and it didnt skip a beat. So I am sold on the cobra products for CB. My dad had a cobra 29 with a 300 watt leaner(AMP). It has a lot of power and just a great compny for radios. They are a little more expensive but you get what you pay for. If you dont care bout the PA system and rather weather. Cobra has a another radio that has lots of features that the 19 doesnt have. It has NOAA weather and scan as well. So for the sizw that we need in our trucks these two radios are what I plan to use when i finnaly get my stuff installed. I have only had my truck for about two weeks and I am trying to get other issues fixed so I can get started on my upgrading stuff and installing. By the way a peaked and tuned 19DXiV will run about about 6 to 7 watts. Thats damn good for a small radio like that. on cool dry nights you can talk for miles and hear for miles. I have don it up to 30 and maybe farther with mine in my jeep. Just my 2 cents

    All the normal TW BS
    What:

    Midland 75-822
    Wilson 4' flex

    Why:

The Midland has a slide-off base that allows in-cab mounting and portable use in seconds, which appealed to me. It is also feature-packed for the price, main points being NOAA weather, scan (press a button, the unit scans through channels until it finds people talking), and the ability for dual-watch (swaps back and forth between two channels so you can monitor both).

However, there are some negative points as well:
-speaker could be louder. I crank it to the max and drive with it in my lap with the radio off and windows up. I don't have anything to compare to, maybe all units are this quiet? I hope not.
-buttons aren't lit, small, and there's a lot of them. This means you won't use half those fancy features
-I find it more natural to have a traditional unit with controls in a set place. With this, I tend to fish around until I find the unit...
-It just died, but it is under warranty. I expect this just happens to be a bad unit, many other people have had theirs for much longer without issue.

The antenna, however, is great. I can almost bend it in half, and there's no need to get a spring like the firestik guys. Tunable tip, very thin. The only problem I had was a branch that cut off some of the rubber coating, which I repaired with heat shrink easily.

    Years experience:

This is my first. Did a lot of looking and went to a pro CB shop for help with the install.

    What would I do different:
If I can't get my Midland repaired, I am considering a Uniden 520 or the Cobra 19. I would like to fit it in the dashboard similar to this. The NOAA I don't think I'd miss, I've never used it. I like dual watch and scan, not sure if those units have it, but I could live without it.

More info on my build here

This is where my antenna mount is for quick disconnecting the midland. It's the coin pouch on the right knee.

Awesome writeup!! I appreciate all the time you spent setting up this post...

m3bassman, have you had that cb tuned? Don't get me wrong, I know just about nothing about this stuff, but from everything being said in this thread tuning is the ticket.

Yes i can tell you that as well. Make sure you get a tunable antenna. Firestick FS is the best. Get the on ebay fairly cheap. Dont know much about the wilson antenna if its tunable or not. But yeah that last setup looked nice. Great write up.:D:)

Run a separate ground wire from antenna mount down to frame. It will help.

That lil hole on the mount is for the ground. I bet you will have even better results by grounding it. Another member had it hooked up like that but no ground, he heard fine but transmitted all muffled. Grounded it and all is well. Did u sand the paint off to help ground the mount?

I am super reluctant to buy anything right now because I just found out that I can't take my truck to Okinawa, Japan with me. Pretty pissed off about it actually. I guess that it just gives me a little extra time to find exactly what I want. I really like the Cobra 75, and I really like the 19, and the Uniden 520...there are just so many options!!!!
