Should I be taking my SWR reading from the middle numbers?

    7y2u8a3u_7405083b320052b2635de4a7bc2bb18f790cb18d.jpg

    First round was at

    Ch 1 = 1.5
    Ch 19 = 1.3
    Ch 40 = 1.2

Adjusted the firestik tip a little longer and ended up at

    Ch 1 = 1.3
    Ch 19 = 1.5
    Ch 40 = 1.8

Should I try going a bit shorter on the firestik tip to get the ch 40 and ch 1 SWR closer together? Should I try and have the SWR as low as possible?

Anything below 1.5 SWR is a good reading. You should adjust your antenna to make Channel 1 and Channel 40 be as close as possible.

If the SWR on channel 40 is greater than that on channel 1, your antenna is considered to be long. Reduce the physical length of your antenna to correct. Do the opposite if channel 1 is greater than channel 40.

So if you were reading my SWR meter you are getting the numbers from the middle? That's my biggest question

Hmm, I wanna say you're wrong because the SWR is close to the center numbers, and the W above the upper numbers and the DB below the lower numbers. Anyone?

Look at the photo I posted, on my SWR meter the SWR reading is in the middle I believe.

The swr part of the meter has SWR printed on both sides of it.

Antenna match is slightly long put it back where you had it those reading were fine. An analog meter will not give you perfect readings unless you spend the big bucks. The spread across the band is 25 KC it is unlikely you'll have a 1.1:1 match from one end to the other.

I see what your asking, yes it is the middle numbers you should be concerned with. Your's are fine. The best approach is to try to get 1 and 40 as close as possible. But at 1.5 or lower you are fine.

I believe the numbers on the top are telling you the % of reflected power. (e.g. 10 would be 100% reflected, and 4 would be 40%). This is just extra info.

The numbers on the very bottom are for measuring field strength, which is unimportant when setting up a standard CB rig. Plus, it takes two people and a static location to properly measure. Since trucks move around, it is impractical.

thanks a lot buddy, im going to adjust the firestik slightly shorter and try and get the ch 1 and ch 40 SWR reading closer together and a bit lower, but yeah it should be fine where its at too.

    Thanks again!!

That's what I have. Nice radio, not too big, and does the trick.
