I know that you can power the CB off a fuse or a home run to the battery. If you do the home run, can you add an inline switch to kill the CB? The only reason I suggest this is if the CB is in an out of the way location in your truck?

You can add an inline kill switch to anything....

That is how I installed it in this thread. I got a CB switch from here: http://www.otrattw.com/proddetail.php?prod=VVPZCCB-500 instead of using the blue one you see in the pictures.

This is what I was thinking.

I kind of skimmed your article, didn't have time to read it all. Seems like a good write up though. Thanks for the input.

If you add a spring you will have to retune your antenna.

Do you recommend a spring with a hood mount? or in general? or is it a waste?

It's OK, but you might want a cushion to go around the antenna. Putting it on at a point where if it were to hit your hood/window, the cushion would hit instead of the antenna. I have seen some Jeep guys use a rubber bushing from a shock.

A stiff antenna like a fire stick may well damage what ever it is attached to or break the antenna if it has no give.

ordered a medium stainless steel spring. Not going to use the hood mount, *yet. My ARB Bull Bar has the 2 aerial mounts. Going to see how it fairs there.

This was not something I researched at all before getting it. There was an opportunity to help someone out and benefit from it in trade.

Lots of research going on now.

    What is a "whistle"?

I was watching a youtube video of a review. Guy kept saying 'if you wanted to hook up a whistle to it' -> I assume it is an AMP?

Honestly, you really shouldn't need a spring with just a 3' Firestick mounted where it is. It won't hurt but would probably be okay without it.

I have a spring on mine in the front corner of the bed. The antenna hits branches/parking decks/drive through bars a lot.

That's what I would guess. Key up sounds. Which are very annoying by the way.

No worse than a "Roger beep".
