Step 1. Verify the antenna cable isn't broken. Using an ohm meter, make sure there is continuity on the center core and on the outer shield.
Step 2. Verify the antenna cable isn't shorted. Using an ohm meter, make sure there isn't any continuity between the center core and outer shield.
Step 3. Make sure the cable ends are securely attached to the radio and antenna.
Step 4. If the antenna requires a ground plane, make sure the mount has a good ground.
Step 5. Tune the antenna with a SWR meter.

Don't key the radio (transmit) until you know the antenna connection is good. You can damage the radio if you attempt to transmit without an antenna.

Make sure the switch for the pa/cb isn't in the pa position. Don't ask me why.

I made sure the CB/PA switch was on the right setting. I also tried to tune the antenna with my SWR meter, but nothing. I’m not getting an SWR reading. The antenna and coax cable should be good they are both brand new. Could my radio be shot?

Check the cable to make sure it's not broken or shorted. Even though it's new, it can be bad.
