I am interested in mounting the antenna on my bed rail. What hardward did you use? Did you have to ground it to the frame? Do you use a spring? Does it ever hit the back of the cab when you go off-road?

 

No problem it was fun! nothing like sawing up the console.
when you get back we will get the plugs done and see what else we can rip apart. Oh yeah and get out to wharton for some wheelin.

 

just did mine like that. I used the same mount and washers instead of that nice plate he's got there.

Dude if you want, I can hook you up with a bracket. You've got to find a way to mount it using the bed rail system. Get creative, but make sure the backing is square and thick in order to avoid the antenna from moving from side to side.
It is grounded to the frame. Find a bolt and simply connect it to that.
It does not hit the cab. Freakin' awesome location.

 

What does everyone honestly use CBs for?! Hunting and offroading, anything else? I kinda like em and it would be fun on long road trips screwin around with truckers hah!

I screwed around with the antenna during a network outage at work today. Got the SWR on channel 1 at 1.1, on channel 40 at 1.3! Gotta love FireSticks on a real ground plane.

Time to scoot the radio the rest of the way in the dash.

 

I put mine just like longhorntaco....I used some scrap metal I had in the garage, pulled the center console, added the brackets and mounted the CB. I am still working on a mount for the firestick.

 

I'll let you know nexttime we do some stuff..

 

I'm thinking about a marine mount, like on a boat that I can fold down. I don't know if it's the same as a VHF v.s. CB mount but if I have to add a ground then thats fine for me. I only really need it when I go up north to see the folks. There is a local CB shop here, so I think they will be able to help me out.

Those of you with the second gens that mounted the antenna into the rails how did the tuning go? I mounted my 4' Firestik there and grounded the mount w/an 8 guage wire and my SWR was through the roof all around. I decided to sell that one and get me a 4' NGP antenna.
