    Hey guys,

I got this CB radio from a friend. It already has a 3 pin weather pack connected to it (he never installed it so not sure if it came like this from the factory). Can I connect this somewhere in the cab using the weather pack for power or do I need to cut this off and connect to the battery/or fuse box?

    Thanks for any info guys.

CB's are limited to 4 watts- perfectly acceptable to run off a cigarette lighter- I wouldn't work real hard to get power from the engine bay.

Radio gear is notorious for picking up interference and rf noise. Direct to batt is the best way to avoid problems.

I don't disagree, but I'd work the simplest good-enough solution first and then go from there. On CB that is...

Like previously said, go to the battery. I hooked up to the fuse panel inside the cab and have a lot of noise. Rolling the windows down, putting it in reverse, etc.

Picture 3 shows 2 butt connections between the CB and weatherpack... definitely not original. Eliminate the weather pack and butt connector. Rewire to your preferred power source with as few connections as possible. If the original wore is long enough, then directly to the battery as suggested. If not then make sure any connection you make is clean and tight.

I have been dealing with CB Radios for year in big trucks on the road Class 11 big rigs
You never want to hook any CB Radio to any in cab power source unless it is an isolated circuit!
You will always get some kind of interference from the vehicle!
Best to always hook to the battery with an inline noise filter

Thanks for clearing that up. It seemed like a weird connection to begin with but I'm not experienced in this stuff so I wanted to ask. Looks like I'll cut it below the weather pack and go straight to the battery. Thanks guys for the info.
