The best antenna you can get for 11 meters is a 102" whip mounted on the back bumper with a Spring.

To get a cb to operate at a longer distance, it has to be taken into a shop that will "un govern" the radio. Yes! Just like our trucks, cb radios also have governors. Either way, find a cb shop to buy everything from and have them mod your radio before it is even installed. If you buy a package deal, it will not be as great as a cb shops owner's suggestion and skill! I was a trucker, I KNOW!

Here's a picture of the Cobra 29 WX NW ST at night. This is the radio I run in my work van with a K40 steel whip antenna. Peaked/tweeked, 2 stage echo board, built-in talkback, multi-color meter display.

I would definately agree that any new radio needs a "tune up". @ www.bellscb.com you can order a radio and they will do a tune up to boost your output signal and modulation (sound louder). I don't know if they have any "kits", but if you find something you like on Right Channel Radios, write down all the parts and check out this site. You may be able to build a kit similar to the other place and have you radio tuned up as well. Good luck with your search.

What are you looking at...a competition radio:D...my Magnum S-3 does everything I need WITHOUT all the bling-bling....
Yes you can spend serious $$$$$ on any set-up BUT unless you are a die-hard ( maybe get your "Tech" and Meter away;) ) most AM only units will do...
    That is why I suggested Sparky's...information 1st,purchase 2nd....
My Tacoma radio will be on a pedestal mount ( no more,"Hanging brackets";) ) and the coax fed throught the cab/bed holes with a permanent antenna mount off the toolbox...( no more Mag-mounts).

If you already have an under-hood speaker for security system you should be able to run leads to CB for use as a PA...I had this set-up once before...as for the "ungoverning"...be advised...FCC limits CB output to 4W...most CB's come set up like this....if you "ungovern" it...you could be straying from legal limits...

Staying in touch with your buddies as your wheeling through the Rocky Mtns.

Granted most of us have two-way handhelds at this point, but a CB is nice because, believe it or not, cell towers don't exist everywhere...

x2. I tried another unit, and couldn't decide on a place to mount. Traded that for a Cobra 75. Very nice unit.

    james3492,

    1) where you mount the antenna will decide length..BUT 5' is a "tree whacker" ;)....
2)Why do you want the siren inclusive with the CB..."Poppa Bear" will frown on this:mad:....some have been known to ticket "PIA's" with just an external speaker "Mouth"....
    3) be VERY CAREFUL on what "Mods" are done to your radio.....internet promises can be a quick "CLIP" that just splatters every channel ...there are "radio" promises of 25-50 watts out of 4 watt radios....thats like saying a "Turbo Tune" will have your TACO at 800 hp..;)

Last item...CHILL OUT...this is a holiday weekend and folks might have other things to do BESIDE ride your "Bumps";).....
