its the money part lol. If you have money to blow get factor 55. If you want to spend the money else where (gas, lockers, skids, etc.), get another brand fairlead (lowrange or someone else for 20 bucks or just use the one you have, powder coat doesn't matter just touch it up) and use the hook and soft shackles. Or ditch the hook and use the end of the winch line (essentially closed system winching just not as fancy (whats pictured above with the metal piece is what the end of my winch line looks like and what I will use if I ditch the prolink)). Like I said I got mine for free and that's the only reason I have it. I paid a 120 or 160 for the 100 foot winch line I have and have done some hard pulls on it and its still going strong (made by customsplice?). I used the extra money I saved and bought other parts. Don't want to clog up this thread anymore. Just my 2 cents.

Gonna piggyback off Harrison here. I drug my Prolink on EVERYTHING, to the point that it kept pulling my winch line out and seemed to damage the winch itself. Granted, we both pushed our rigs a bit, Harrison more than I, but even on a moderate trail I seemed to always hit the stupid thing. The Prolink greatly reduces your approach angle, and as stated, the use of two D rings is a no-go for me/safety. If you don’t go with a Factor 55 product, I highly recommend running a traditional hook and a soft shackle. That’s the best combo I’ve used so far.

So do you think I could bedliner my fender flairs while on the truck? Cause I really do not feel like fooling with clips.

Like Brian said, you can, but I prefer taking them off. Also I trimmed mine so that the real reason for taking them off.

Thanks! Been a long 4 plus years to get it where it's at currently and I'm already planning the next big phase for the build :stirthepot:

I've entertained the idea, but no. I'll wait until Total Chaos makes 2+ LT for the first gens.

Toying with a couple option right now but I'm learning towards my second idea.

    1. 4 speed Atlas (3.8 in the Atlas, 2.7 in the planatary)

    2. Beef up the drivetrain (Front would get an 8" clamshell out of a 2nd gen Taco. Rear would get a 9.5" out of a LC80, full float, disc brakes, and a Diamond Axle housing. ARB air lockers and 5.29 gears in both diffs. And to top it off, 315s.)

    3. V8 swap (probably a 2uz out of a first gen Tundra.)

Tape them off. That’s how I did mine. Easy peasy and still look good years later

Haha! I really want to do the v8 swap, but there's 2 things holding me back. First and foremost, I'd need to retire the Taco from daily driver and go out and buy something else to drive. Taco wouldn't be stationary for a few months. Second, v8 swap is actually a lot more expensive that I originally though. There are quite a few people who say to just buy a wreaked donor vehicle. Cheaper buy apparently.

The 4 speed Atlas is actually the mod I want to do the most. I love the controllable of my dad's FJC. Lower gears on tough obstacles is awesome. My main issue is I have to cut into the cab to make it fit. I technically would just angle the t-case so it doesn't hit the cab, but then I lose a ton of ground clearance. Also when making room for the Atlas, I'm pretty sure I lose my driver seat and either have to make new brackets, or have to get bucket seats.

Beefing up the drive train is probably what will happen first. Having the whole drive train be basically bulletproof would be awesome. Lockers front and rear will be great. Going to 35s will also be an added bonus. Also having a wider rear axle would be a perfect set up for rear doing my rear suspension and out boarding my rear shocks. Might even be able to with some 2.5x12 smooth bodies with remote reservoir.

Keep in mind, this is years down the road. Currently saving up for new camera gear so yea. It's going to be a while.

If you do #2 you might as well sas it if that is the ultimate plan. Be a lot easier than trying to cram a bigger clamshell in there and be probably similar in cost/time. Do it once and be done. If you get a kit (say 4wheel underground 3 link cause I know you won't do leafsprings) build the axle before hand you could probably get everything done in less than a month if not faster. Atleast to the point of driveablitly.

I say wheel it and break it and use it lol. Upgrade as the time comes and just enjoy using it right now.
