    You do bring up a good point. I'd need to think about it, but technically speaking, junkyard D60 Kingpin and 14bolt would just need lockers and a regear, 4WU 3 link kit, chevy 63s in the rear and a set of 40s and 17" steelies. Hmmmm. I'd need to crunch number and see how much it is, but I like it.

    Have you considered a manual swap? I've been low key praying for my auto to just shit the bed so I have a reason to swap lol...

    Does the A340F bolt up to a 1/2UZ? I've only ever researched a 1/2UZ swap with an adapter to use with the R150F manual. A V8 would be so nice in a 1st gen...

    Tons aren't cheap to build (my dad's building a set for his jeepster) but would be your last axles or a set of 609s. Could also go the route of fj80 axles but they are pricey as well. Don't neeeed 40s but they are the same cost as 37s from pro comp ;)

    Id say see what the end result is and save for that. If it's a v8 sasd on 40s and tons, wheel the Crap out of it and have fun while you save and replace CVS as needed lol. If that's for the next project I still say wheel it and have fun. These trucks are plenty capable where yours stands.

    On the atlas talk, your driving an auto. No need for crazy low gearing because there's no clutching etc going on. I've said it before but I believe the 4.7 I have is perfect. Not to fast not to slow. Rarely use my double low because it's to slow. If you where to do an atlas I would do a 4.3 or 5.0 2 speed. Plenty low enough for hard stuff (just put the transmission in 1st or "low") and enough gears to cruise at 20-25 if need be (winding it out lol). Just speaking from personal experience. But still your build. Back to lurking :spy:

    Not sure. Need to read more into it.

    Last I talk to Brian, he mentioned he was able to build his axles for about $5k. Could definitely go 37s, but I'm a little head over heels for 40s. :anonymous:

    I need to talk to Brian, he just put a 2 speed Atlas (3.8) in his truck. I definitely think that with a v8 a 2 speed would be all I'd need. I don't know why, maybe it's because I don't have low gears, but there's something really cool about super low gears to me.

    That being said, I've definitely move away from the "upgrade everything" mentality to more big future goals. Wheeling is just fun, camping is fun. If things break, then I'll fix it.

    Not sure what Brian's running for axles but 5k seems low if that includes the purchase of the axles. Also Not sure if he's running chromoly but id say you kind of need to on 40s.

    I don't even think with the 3.4 there is a need for a v8. I don't see me doing one anytime soon (mainly because of smog) but rather a supercharger and if that. I talked to Brian a little and he was happy with the stock tcase but wanted just slightly lower gears for the hard stuff. Axle gearing makes a big difference as well and helps a lot. I did talk to advance adapters at EJS and they did say the 4 speed is easier to package in a tacoma over a 2 speed. About 3500 for a 2 speed and 4500 for 4 speed though. But brain showed you can fit a 2 speed without cutting the floor and almost a flat belly lol

    Hoping to pick up that same shift controller he got with the winters. Been drooling over Radesigns controller and shifter for over a year lol. Maybe next year

    Yea. 5k does seem a little low. a rebuilt 14 bolt alone can be $3k.

    You're probably right about axle gearing over t-case gearing. I'm still running stock gears, so I basically know nothing.

    You speak of Brian fitting the 2 speed in there, but he cut a good chuck of metal out of his lower link mount. I would have just gone into the cab.

    Brian's shifter setup is pretty sweet. I'm more interested right now to see how his new center console comes out.

    Isn't 35s a little more offroad perspective and less about highway and gravel travel? Is the sacrifice worth it? I wouldn't go bigger than 33s that's for sure.

    Truck looks awesome right now :thumbsup:

    35s are definitely more meant for offroad. In my eyes, it's worth the sacrifice. You can around an inch of clearance all the way around with 35s over 33s. Doesn't sound like much, but even that extra inch can make the difference between getting over an obstacle and getting hung up on that obstacle.

    Ugh how boring haha. Where's all the fun of possibly stalling on an obstacle or having to mess with the clutch? That's the real challenge. Autos you just point and give it gas

    You can still stall an auto. Trust me, both myself and my dad have done it, and I know a few more people who done it as well.

    To each there own. Auto is nice just because of I can focus on my lines and driving. I know some people love Manual, but it just not my thing.

    From what I know, it's mostly the torque converter. Under high load combined with low power output and no forward momentum just causes the engine to sputter out.

    I've done it several times :anonymous: once was on a real steep climb and if you've ever stalled an auto you know it looses all power including brakes. That was a wild ride lol
