    ^^^ This!

Pretty much the reason I'm going to invest in one soon.

After the first trip last winter I went home and bought a winch. Literally. Experienced the advantage first hand that trip haha

Nice! Also figured it'd be nice just in case I go on my own and do something stupid. :anonymous: At least I have a way out.

I've never used my winch to recover myself. It gets used recovering other people and moving trees. Better to just let someone else in the group lug the extra hundred pounds on their front end :D

But they're super handy and you should get one anyway

As much as I wish that would be the case for me, I'll probably go on a trip alone, get stuck, and pull myself out of a dumb line. Here's hoping that I don't have to use it on myself.

Also pretty sure that a winch with a synthetic line is only around the 50-60lb area. Steel cables are definitely up in the 100lb area.

Completely agree. Its worth having that peace of mind for when your out alone. I've done stupid things alone and its gotten me out of places.
I think my 12k pound winch weighs 58 pounds with synthetic line. But weight isn't one of my huge concerns at this point lol

I guess it's time to do an absurd amount of reading on winches now. :anonymous: Warn's M8000 and Smittybilt's X20 Gen2 10K are the two I know most about.

Between those 2, warn for sure. I have the TJM 12k synthetic from Summit Racing. Free shipping, wireless and wired remotes and battery on/off switch for $780 I believe. Worked really well for me so far

I like the Warn products. I wish I had more experience with Warn, but the M8000 on my dad's FJ has been used like 4/5 times over the last decade. I've seen a lot of people talk about TJM as well. I don't know much though. I also just don't care for wireless since I'm just going to wire a switch in the cab for ease of use.

Oh okay. One friend had a motor burn out but thats the only problem that i've heard with TJM. I've used mine 4 or 5 times in the last year and it works great

That's the one thing I've read about the TJMs. The motors seem to have a much shorter lifespan than Warn or Smittybilt.

Warn is definitely the most reliable company, but the price reflects it. So if you are okay with the price then I'd say go for it! I wouldn't get a smittybilt..

Warn is definitely top of the list. The only issue with Warn is that I'd switch the cable out with a MasterPull Synthetic Cable, and the cable is basically more expensive then the winch itself... :bananadead: I've heard a lot of good thing on the Smittybilt X20 Gen2 10K though.

Oh I know, that was going to be in the next post about smittybilt lol

Why switch it out? I don't think i've seen any warn synthetic cable break.

Isn't the cable only rated for 10k or something? MasterPull is rated for 25K, so I'd pretty much never break a line.

Im not sure.. But I wouldn't worry about it until it breaks which would be a long time down the road. As long as you "break in" the line before first using it then you'll be good.

May have totally forgot about M8000-s :anonymous: That would probably be the smarter way to go in the long run. M8000-s is something like $850, if I recall correctly.
