It won't matter as much then. SPC's allow you a whole bunch of options no other UCA does. With Icon your fixed in your caster. I'd still just do a garage alignment then cut and take it to the shop after.

Yeah, I was going to go with those, but I got my Icon UCAs cheaper than any other option, so I kinda just sent it.

He'll be waiting for you on Slick Rock hopefully at the end of June. ;)

Tubbing has begun. I definitely underestimated how much I would need to cut. Here's how the passenger side came out.

Going to basically copy what I've done for the passenger side on to the driver side. Should take significantly less time than I spent today, but I'd rather take my time on something like this since I truly don't want any rubbing at full bump from lock to lock.

    Nice work!

Your cut looks an awful lot like mine did! Right down to getting into the cab mount.

It’s pretty nice when you finally spin that tire at full stuff and lock and the thing has room to spare :D

Yep. Does look similar. Only thing I rub on is the frame and body mount on the driver side.

Yes. I'm probably going to end up taking 1 1/2 inches out of them.

Drive side got cut up today. Only place it rubs is the body mount, but that's only at full lock, so I'm just going to run it instead of cutting more.

I also had a few spare hours left before I wanted to clean up so I cut my front fenders. Took about 1 3/4 inches out of them and did some mild trimming here and there to accommodate the tire.

Next weekend I'm hoping to get everything patched up enough so I can start sealing. I have a little time on Thursday after work so I might start making some template for sheet metal.

Could you not of heated up the metal and bend it in? Instead of cutting it out

Nope. Those corners are stupid thick. Just layers on layers of sheet metal. Cutting is easier and much more time effective.

Oh! I just saw you're running a 2nd gen. 2nd and 3rd gens have a much easier time fitting 35s, especially with a 2 inch body lift already, you shouldn't many or any issues running 35s.

Solid work @cbechtold! Def getting feelings similar to @jubei's cut.

There are two methodologies to do this IMO. One is to leave the sheet metal as it sits and cut until it doesn't rub, or cut less, and create a long vertical slit in the body. Then bash the existing sheet metal back to then close said slit. It will be less material cut out but accomplish the same thing.

I copied @mrbeggins style seen here:

Though it looks like he didn't go into the body mount as much as a bunch of us including Cory now had to.

    Mine is similarly shaped:

Wheel and tire specs matter in the end the most.

Thanks man! I came very close to coping what @mrbeggins and @ponethousand did, but if figured if I was cutting the truck up, I might as well go the extra mile and rebuild the sheet metal. It's going to take a little longer, but the end result will be more worth it in the end.

I wonder how much the alignment at the time of tubbing has to do with this as well.

Because I went straight to cutting for 315s before installing the lift, I tubbed with an essentially ‘stock’ alignment, and I think that could have had a lot to do with the extent of my cuts and having to get into the body mount quite a bit. I also wasn’t using spacers during the cutting either, but the 3.5 back spaced wheels certainly increased the scrub radius...

Regardless, it’s interesting to see how much this varies from truck to truck.

Alignment plays a big part. It's a double edge sword though. If you have SPC's you can push the caster forward. That allows you to clear the body mount. But it also puts the tire rubbing the frame slightly. It also makes a lot more contact with the front portion of the inner fender well at full stuff. I backed my SPC's down a notch, from F to E, to find a happy medium. Truck aligned fine and drives great. The only spot I rub is the front frame. It barely touches but you can see the rub marks well enough.

I keep having this stupid idea of going to 38's. It's gonna take a small body lift and a frame notch to make work. Just not sure it's really worth it for that extra 1.5" of clearance.

Who am I kidding. Of course it will be worth it. lol
