I definitely plan to mess around with the rear valving eventually. See if I can make the Dakars work for the time being. I'd have to check again, but I think they're stamped with 40/60 valving currently. Likely I'd just start with 30/90 as most do, but I'll need to pull them apart to confirm valving as I got them 2nd hand.

Yep. Definitely recommend some custom Deavers or Alcans if it's in the budget. F67s would be rad as well, but that's little more involved than what most want to do.

Great weekend in the woods with the buds. Fordyce is a little bit tougher of a trail than I was planning on for a break in run before the Rubicon, but I'm super stoked with how the truck did this weekend. Still a few bugs to work out with the front end, but I've got some time between now and when I hit the Rubicon. Didn't take a bunch of photos this trip. Just enjoyed wheeling and having some great company.

What rear shocks do you have? Good time to pick up a few shock tools and a nitrogen bottle to start playing with shim stacks if you’re playing in the go fast stuff and have rebuildable/tunable shocks.

They are some old school Fox 2.0x12 piggybacks. My has a nitrogen tank and a handful of the tools I'd need to work on them. I'd just need to get some shock oil and shim and I can start working on them.

Shims are a lot cheaper here than from Fox.

Also pretty sure Fox red jm-92 and Bilstein oil is all F&L Ultra Extreme. Still seems expensive for me to play with having no idea how to re-shim shocks but you can save some buying 5gal.

Oh sweet! Thanks! I'll definitely look into that site later when I get around to messing with the valving. I'll probably just buy the fox branded oil off Accutune and call it a day if my dad doesn't have any laying around.

Thanks man! I'm pretty stoked with how she's working right now. Still "relatively" daily driver friendly and she eats almost everything I throw at her off road.

Is Fordyce easier than the Rubicon? I have goals to hit both in 2027 for a big trip out there and want to make sure I pack in the best trails the area has.

It's harder. I feel like most obstacles would be doable without body damage or breaking outside of winch hill 1. Rubicon isn't that bad. Little Sluice is rough, but there is a bypass there. Big Sluice is pretty tough to go up, but if you're planning on going from Loon to Tahoma, then gravity is on your side. You're truck is also narrow enough that you should be able to just squeeze through obstacles.

Okay good, yeah I heard the Rubicon isn't what it used to be and that Fordyce is hard, so I am excited to give them both a go. I don't want to drive 40+ hours and take off three weeks of work to not be challenged.

Awesome! Will def let you know. Going to try to plan it for right after Sierra Trek to take advantage of the lowered levels. Anything else you recommend in the area? Going to try to make this trip Cali focused since going all the way out there is likely a one time deal at least until we potentially move closer.

Slick Rock, Deer Valley, Niagara Rim, Hell Hole, Snake Lake. If you feel like going a little South, there are a bunch of trails in the Shaver Lake area.

Speaking of Rubicon, Rubicon was a big success this past weekend. Ended up going on the Tacos on the Rubicon run with Nick from Martec Engineering and George from Unleashed 4x4. Bunch of awesome built Tacomas, pretty much all of them on one tons and 40s. Definitely felt a little outclassed since myself and one other were on the smallest tires of the group as well as being one of the 3 only IFS rigs to join up. Day 1 was rough. We had a pretty big recovery task on an FJ Cruiser that broke both lower rear links, rear driveshaft, and an inner tie rod. Fortunately he was able to get back on the road from what I last heard.

Overall though, I couldn't be happier with how the truck performed. It's wild how capable this truck is now especially since I wasn't really playing catchup too often with the rest of the group. She's able to kind of keep up which was absolutely impressing the hell out of me. It's trips like this where I absolutely love this truck and what is can do! Not a lot of photos, but a lot of memories and fun. Already can't wait to be back in a few weeks!

your truck is looking good Cory! that trip looked like fun with a good group.

But damn, seeing those SAS'd 2nd gens on 40s is quite tempting. Would be so much more affordable if I could do the work myself but I'm no where near capable.

Thanks man! I'm super happy with how things are working right now.

Yeah, all the build 2nd gens are rad. Martec makes a pretty rad kit that would work for your truck. Definitely would look at that if you want to look into SAS one day.

Definitely one of my favorite spots. I really only went down that way since still to this day, one of my favorite pictures I ever took on that trail is right there.
