So you did see some benefit which is always nice. Often time when a heavy ground like that is run, it will attract signal and create a larger resistance for signal strength. Shorter runs are best. I planned on needing an external ground when I installed mine but had a sufficient ground from just bolting the support to the bed.

Also, taking the units ground to the battery rather than a point elsewhere on the truck will yield better results.

yeah some results but not as much as I was wanting.
And my box is mounted only by the inside bed rails , so I wasn't sure if a ground would help or not
Not much ground plain , and didn't want to put it on my roof Thanks for the info !

I'll add...I've had one in the console, on the right of the center console (passenger foot well) and a Cobra 75 SWXT always wanting it in the center in front of the shifter. I've investigated doing the remote head display but that didn't seem viable. So this past weekend I cut out the back of my forward center cubby to make room to slide the back of the radio forward.
I didn't take pictures of the process, but here is the result:

For a mount, I use the FireStik side body mount and get a SWR of around 1.3

I'm pleased with this setup thus far.

I was hoping my radio would fit in that hole. Great location. Did you have to remove the bottom of the compartment ?

it's a Galaxy 98. I have another battery under the seat for it also. It's been modified to do 300 watts and uses over 50 amp's when running wide open.

I cut out the back - not the bottom - so the radio extends now over the airbag box

By cutting the back out do you recall just how many more inches of room it gives you .

3/4" maybe. When the console is removed, you'll see a black plastic support piece - passenger side of center line of truck. I studied it for an hour and am convinced you can cut that and have more room for a larger radio - but I chickened out. But I use an older Midland 79-290 which is smaller and fits without cutting.

Ok thanks for the info The radio I have and would like to keep will fit in the hole , but by just sticking it in there , it touches the gear shift
So I'm thinking I will need two or three inches

I've moved the same mount and cable from a 2010 4Runner to a 2013 Tacoma (manual transmission) to my current 2014. I think the interior bed area just in front of the tailgate is best, but tonneau covers don't work this way.

I use this compact Cobra... no need to mount a large box, and it works good enough:

    https://www.cobra.com/products/recreational/c-75-wx-st

For the antenna, I used the Pelfreybilt mount that goes into the bed rail that I got from Boss 4x4 until I got my All-Pro Pack Rack that has mounts on top. But now I have to remove the Firestik to fit in my garage!

I forgot to ask you , are there anything I need to know about when disassembling the concole. I would like to try and see if my galaxy 55 will fit in there. This weekend Thanks

I tried that with my general Lee. The heating duck is right over the air bag switch.
