Ya kinda have to if you want to download music to your phone. Not real useful otherwise if you go places where there's spotty coverage.

I have a CD player in mine and I can't say I've used it more than twice. I have 12000+ songs in direct access at any time. Sure, quality is worse but the truck isn't a studio anyway

It was in 2020 that Toyo dropped the player.

I just tried my bluetooth adapter, the truck see's it tries to connect and then gives up. I think your best bet is to try a 3.5mm to USB adapter with a CD player and see if that'll work. If not then a new HU will give you what you need plus a bit of amplification...

EDIT: just realized that this is a receiver, not a transmitter. Duh!

Too much to name for this little space
Another motor, another electrical wiring needed, another electric button. I'd rather get mechanical. Reliability over luxury

For those that are interested, I now have a kit of adapters for one of the old Discplayers and will be running some tests on Sunday. I've both an audio to FM and audio to bluetooth unit. There is only one plug and play usb unit out there whose price runs from 200-300. Nice and clean, but spendy. Made by MITO: https://mitocorp.com/auto/factory-screen-integration/usb-cd-player-integration/. Seems that the issue is buffering and they have a patent on what it takes. I suspect our trucks will take version 2. The Discplayer plus FM or Bluetooth will be a not very pretty kluge but with an adapter costing 20, kind of compelling. I'll spec out the adapters I'm using after I run a test.

I just tried the MPOW model BH390A bluetooth receiver / transmitter and it worked in my 2019.

Interesting. Looks like its ripping CDs on the fly and serving them up as audio files for the headunit. That would be fun to take apart, wish they had more specs on it, depending on implementation it could be great or terrible.

Set some stuff up and ran some tests. The easiest is to use a Bluetooth transmitter like the Taotronics TTBA07. Nice and small; it can life in the center console plugged into the USB port for power with a wire going out to the old style discplayer. The player itself has to get power from the 12volt connection. I glued a bit of Velcro to the bottom of mine, and a matching piece on a plastic jar top that fits one of the cupholders. It's acceptable clean, not a huge Kluge. I also tried a FM transmitter from Belkin. Install isn't as clean as it needs power from a 12v socket which means you need an adapter; it can live in the center console but it has to have USB power plugged into the 12volt plug which means a bunch of cable. There are some of these that are rechargeble from a USB port and plug right into the player but I didn't try them. I don't know if all of the trucks without CD have Bluetooth; if they do that seem to be the way to go. Cost of these is under 20 bucks so you can use your old walkman or MP player or iPod.

The MITO rig would give a nice clean install but at 10 x the cost. It does make changing CD's on the fly much easier.

One less prescription per month. Add up your cell phone, cable, Spotify, etc. and see how much monthly income is for things you may be able to do without.

i swapped out the oem head unit on my '21 for a kenwood....i actually did the whole sound system, but it started just because i wanted a gyatdam cd player....and navigation that i don't have to pay monthly for....i'm more concerned with the function of the stereo instead of having a gyatdang 40" tv on the dash

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
Sure. But a monthly subscription to Spotify is the equivalent of 1 CD per month. And my Kindle Unlimited subscription is the price on 1 paperback per month. And that gives me unrestricted access to tens of thousands of songs and books at the touch of a finger. 20-30 years ago, I was buying way more than 1 CD and 1 book per month.
