Hello, I've got a 2000 Tacoma 4x4 v6 automatic with 345,000 on it. It has been a trouble free truck that I have done almost no repairs to other than the standard maintenance, oil & filter every three thousand, air filter, plugs and wires (well they are new now, and they were changed once before).

It has like practically every other Toyota I have owned (half a dozen 22re's and a old Corolla) had a check engine light on at times, but not constant, and not within the last six months to a year. Anyways the check engine light came on the other, and the truck started running rough. At times the check engine light is blinking, which is something I haven't seen before. Stopped by NAPA and they hooked it up to their generic code reader and it read P0309 (if I recall correctly) which they said was a random misfire. I ran injection cleaner through it, changed plugs and wires, cleaned MAF and TPS sensors, still the same. Tried checking resistance on coil packs with an ohmmeter right now, and am probably not doing it right, since I am reading 2.8 on all three coil packs, when what little info I can find on the net (which is confusing as to how you are supposed to test) says they should read between 9-16.7.
Oh, timing belt was changed less than 10k ago.

Thinking I should change the O2 sensor, but am scratching my head over what the problem is, any ideas?

Mine is also reporting a random misfire. When going up a grade it will stutter between 3rd and 4th gear (might be 4th and 5th I cant tell). It really seems more like a transmission or torque converter thing but I haven't changed the plugs and wires in 3 years so I will try that first. I thought that maybe the uneven load from the torque converter could cause the engine to misfire, hence the error, but a transmission guy didn't think so.

I am changing plugs and wires today. I have a feeling that is what it is although I never would have guessed without searching TW forums :)

Replacing plugs and wires solved the problem. No more driveline shuddering around 2000rpm. I also changed the fuel filter so that might have helped too.
