I haven't had to do this.....yet. If I had to clean those filters, I'd use brake cleaner, and maybe some low pressure air.
    It's quick and dries fast.

What problems or symptoms would I have if it was the ocv's? I have no other symptoms. The scanner said these would fix ny issue?

This is a shot in the dark but does anyone know any other issues this could be if the scanner said ocv's? I dont get off work till 3 so I cant get the codes till then. Any other sensors or anything related to the valves?

I had code telling me that one of my catalytic converters were bad. It turned out to be a bad gasket.
The codes aren't always a direct link to what their description of it actually is. As i see it, the code is telling me that something is happening that's affecting what the code is describing.
Personally, I'd check the filters first. Why start.
As for other symptoms, I can't say. But considering we're talking about cam shaft timing and control in general, I'd think there would be drivability and acceleration issues because the cam shaft timing isn't changing with the varying load on the engine.

    Agreed

that "scanner" at the parts store is nothing more than a way for autozone to sell you something before you walk out the door. The employee at the counter plugs it into your truck, punches a couple buttons and it magically spits out a couple part numbers that they just happen to have on the shelf .. go figure..

When the pcm in any vehicle sets trouble codes, it is only an attempt at self diagnosis. In regards to vvt systems, often the code is indicating that the camshaft(s) do not have their full range of movement. the pcm "assumes" that there is a good supply of oil pressure from the oil pump, the timing chain is not stretched, the filter screens are clean, etc..

Update I just got in my truck to go to lunch and the light if off now? Is that a sign of anything? Do these oil control valves cause a symptom like this? Should I still change them or go get my 350$ back?

From what I'm gathering from you guys I should go take the valves back and wait to see if the light comes on then post any codes and troubleshoot from their starting at the cheapest? All I know is it's running fine and the light went off??

I would return them for a refund. Most places will take them back if uninstalled. My guess is that the OCVs or filters may be dirty enough on possibly throwing a code again. I would start with the easier of the 2 by cleaning the filters along with changing the oil and see if the codes return. Remove and clean the OCV's if code returns.

First, are you the original owner of the vehicle? If not, they might have been replaced at an earlier time. I've replaced both of mine, and highly recommend using the toyota part. I had to replace one of the two less than 2k miles after installing it. Turns out it wasn't clocked properly, and full pressure wasn't getting through to the new cam phaser (whole nother tale). Got the part from Toyota, issue went away.

Yep went and got my 300 bucks back from autozone. The light went off at lunch and I got 50 miles on since then. Runs fine no light, maybe something got sucked in one of those ocv's or something and passed through? :bananadance:
