I have a CEL Code p0441 "purge flow insufficient." I already went the easy route and replaced the gas cap with a brand new one and cleared the CEL. It came back on immediately.

Next culprit is the Vacuum Switching Valve or EVAP purge solenoid on the firewall. I tested the resistance with a HF Multimeter and it was 37 Ohm which sounds about right (IIRC it's supposed to be around 35).

However, I tried hooking up the VSV to the batter with jumper leads and there is no audible click on/off when power is added.

Should I assume the VSV is bad and order a new one or is there something else I can do to check it?

If you find someone with a good scanner, like a Snapon, you may be able to actuate it remotely. Otherthan checking for acton with voltage, check for resistance to see if the switch is stuck open. Otherwise, replace it. If there is a junkyard nearby, might be able to get one off a 4runner.

    Thanks

No fancy scanners here. I found a guy parting out a 4runner so I'm going to check it out later. If it seems good with a multimeter I think it's worth gambling the $10 of a craigslist/junkyard part for something that is $100+ at the dealer

it's been over a year but here's an update: I replaced it with a used one from the salvage truck and cleared the CEL and it never came back.
