I have a 2017 Tacoma, purchased in October 2017. Vehicle currently has 47K miles. I'm wondering if anyone has a solution to my problem, because Toyota cannot figure it out.

On 3/26/19 my Tacoma showed CEL+Trac Off+Cruise Control was disabled when I was driving to work. I do a lot of traveling. I took it to the dealership and it took them 3 days to give me answer. They had to call in a "Senior Tech" to look at it. Their final conclusion was that there was too much ethanol in the fuel causing the CEL+Trac Off and no cruise control. They told me to top off my tank with non-ethanol fuel and put in a bottle of heat to resolve the problem. So they cleared the codes and sent me on my way. I topped off the tank with non-ethanol fuel and added a bottle of heat just as they suggested. Thought that resolved the issue.... apparently not.

On 4/28/19 my Tacoma did it again, CEL+Trac Off+ Cruise disabled. Took it back to the dealership on 4/30/19. Still waiting to hear back from Toyota?

Does anybody have any ideas? Toyota doesn't or they just won't admit that there is a problem/recall?

What actual code is it throwing?? After topping it off with ethanol free gas did you start filling it up with the old fuel again possibly causing the same issue??

You really only have a CEL which could mean a lot of different things so without anymore info like symptoms or code we can't tell you anything.

Whenever the CEL goes off the "TRAC OFF" and "Cruise control disable" automatically go off too no matter what the CEL is for (as a precaution)... It could literally be as simple as your gas cap not being tight enough or it could mean your engine is blown, or anything in between.

The only thing the dealership told me is that they found codes for cylinder 3 imbalance. So they swapped injectors 3 and 5 to see if an imbalanced followed, which it did not. So that's when they told me it was too much ethanol in the fuel, so I switched to using non-ethanol for now. The vehicle drives normal, the first thing I checked was the gas cap, which was tight. I always make sure it clicks several times when I fill up.

As I was typing this, Toyota called and said it's still throwing the same code on cylinder 3. They still can't figure it out and need to keep it longer.

I called the service adviser back and asked if they checked the fuel. He stated they pulled a sample and eliminated that bad fuel (too much ethanol) is not the issue.

Wow, they totally guessed the first time and sent you on your way... or it seems their fuel testing was "faulty" lol. Oh and - a code for just one cylinder if the fuel is "bad"? Twice on the same cylinder???
Your experience is one reason why I have an OBD dongle (Carista) and software on my phone (OBD Fusion) to read codes.
I can do it with my OVtune kit too, but I digress.

Here's some interesting info WRT the imbalance fault:

    Imbalance 1.jpg
    imbalance 2.jpg
    imbalance 3.jpg

As you can see, either type of injector can cause this issue (if in fact it's an injector). Without the actual codes though, who knows?

I just read the inspection procedure for imbalance codes. There are 13 specific steps to do, but NONE of them are "check fuel for high ethanol content".

I think that the ethanol excuse was just lazy on their part. I'd have to burn an entire tank of fuel to get to an ethanol free station and back, unless I filled up with race fuel.

5/2/2019 - The dealership finally figured it out! #3 valve not seated properly and need to break down the motor to correct it. Covered under warranty, thank goodness! They're just waiting on approval from Toyota. I appreciate everyone's help on this!

I am experiencing the same mind blowing lights and Cruise inop issues. I've checked the Fuel Cap.
Also disconnected the battery with hope's of a reset.
Given the Knock Sensor codes listed below , I was advised to use some fuel injector cleaner.
    Which made no correction.

Here are my codes from three different Auto Parts store testers.

    OBD Test 1
    P0333 Knock Sensor 2 (Bank 2)

    OBD test 2
C1241 Vehicle Stability Control System (brake booster) ( Low power supply malfunction)

C1422 ( Master Cylinder pressure Sensor Zero Point High Malfunction)

P1604...Something to do with no start.

The knock sensor was from both OBD sources.

    Any help is appreciated.
    I need my Cruise Control

This seems to be a common issue with many possible resolutions.
Why isn't there a TSB ( Technical Service Bulletin ) on this issue?
    Or is there?

Thanks for this bit of info - I got TRAC OFF and CEL and cruise inop yesterday, apparently due to a faulty ambient air sensor - at least, that's what was acting up before the lights. The FLAPS code reader couldn't get a code - also couldn't decode my VIN to get a model, just could tell that it's a 2017. First time I've tried a code reader on this truck, so I don't know if that's normal or not.

I'm on a road trip, so I will just drive it like this for the next couple of days. The ambient air sensor doesn't seem to like to get wet (it has acted up before after big rainstorms, and I'm guessing I have to replace it.
