When I looked up the paint code, I’m sure it called for the pearl to be mixed with the base coat. That was a few years ago now, so may have remembered incorrectly.

Interesting. I never got the chance to spray any pearl paint jobs. What I did for work never called for it. We sprayed metallic, but never pearl. To this day I think pearl (and metallic) paint jobs are super cool. I guess I'm fancy AF.

I honestly thought pearl was dead, it was only when I looked up the cement color out of interest (similar to your first post) I realized it’s making a comeback.

I shot a red on red pearl back in the day. Lots of wet sanding.

Have you seen Inferno up close? It appears to have some gold pearl in it:

Awhile back I spoke with the local Axalta dealer, he said they had several varient chips of Toyota's Cement and one could choose which one was the closest match. Later, I can't recall who on this forum confirmed the same and the chip varient they chose was a perfect match. That tells me Axalta at least is using 2 stage, a color coat with pearl in it and then a clear coat. There was another thread on here where a Cement owner was complaining his body shop was having issues with matching the flares. Not sure if he was being super picky but there is a faint slight mismatch with the flares and bumpers on most Cements. It's very subtle though.

I think MGM is metallic, its a very fine metallic though. Cement, Calvary Blue and Inferno appear to be light pearls.

Will add some of the touchup paint companies name Cement gray as a metallic. More confusion.

i'll have to asky my body guy if it has pearl in it. the color code is 1h5 cement gray metallic. so i'd guess its just metallic based off that. typically toyota has pearl in the color name if its got pearl, like blizzard pearl

just got my tundra back from being painted cement

If metallic then the paint ratio calls for lots of solids, very fine metallic and toner. Heck it might be a mix with pearl and metallic??

My old auto paint teacher told me silver has mostly metallic, gray toner and lots of clear in it, not much color pigments.

I’m curious now too. I love seeing the slight iridescence on cement when the light hits it perfectly.
