Rides great! Very similar to the raptor I had except less nose dive.

Well King has a great reputation and I really wanted to give them a shot. I’ve had a bunch of Fox stuff so it was time to branch out. I have had zero issues with them. They ride extremely well and seem to hold up to the salt and grime on the roads pretty well.

Did you add a lead spring to the back and replace your upper control arms?

Man, your truck is looking awesome! I really like that Leer shell that you have on there. It goes perfect on the truck. How much did that shell run you, set up with the side windows like that? Did they offer a power lock option at all on the back glass? Thanks!

Yeah I put in Dakar mid-weight leafs and JBA high caster UCAs. Seems to be a pretty decent setup so far.

Yeah I love it man, keeps everything nice and dry and the dogs stay warm. It was roughly $2800 bucks installed. The side windows are called vented “windoors” and they are like $400 a side if I remember correctly. But they allow access from the side and I can also let air in for the dogs. Worth it for me. It’s carpeted and has led lights and yes, power lock that operates off the trucks key fob. I added a Pop and Lock to the tailgate and now I can completely lock the truck with one FOB. Perfect setup.

That sounds about as good as it gets for me.
I just picked up a DCLB cement TRD OR, and I need a shell put on the truck for work purposes as well as play. That setup definitely looks like the ticket. I went on Leer's website and I just shot the local dealers a message to get some quotes on getting one on the truck.

I take it by you saying that it keeps everything nice and dry, that there are no water leaks at all? That would be really great. My old truck's top leaked just a little, but it was definitely annoying.....

Yeah the topper is water tight as far as I can tell. I’m sure you could push water through if you pressure washed hard around the windows or something but I wash mine every week and have had no issues. The only place the water comes in is from the damn bed itself from under the bed side. It’s kinda hard to explain but I can take a pic tomorrow to show you what I mean.

    edit: not
To derail too far but I added a few other pictures just in case you needed some extra convincing. Haha

    Nice, I appreciate the pictures!
I will try to be patient in the meanwhile waiting to talk to these dealers to see what they can do on the price for one installed.
    Thanks again!

Is that an OEM grill? If it is aftermarket, any idea if it will work with the 2020 SR5 Toyota safety sense?

OK, the dealers have started to shoot me quotes on getting the Leer with all the goodies.
This would be the best quote out of 3 so far:

They have it broken down into separate items:
Leer 100XR Shell - Painted, wired, and installed - $2000
    Side windoors w/ sliders - $275 ea.
Removable solid front window - $175
Keyless entry installed and wired - $225
Thule Tracker II roof rack - $500

All in that puts me at $3450

I have yet to ask if they can work any extra deal on that package. I will also ask them if they can leave the wiring for me. I would prefer that since I worked on auto electrical for 20 years, which makes me funny about wiring and paying someone else to do something that most likely I will take apart anyway and re-do myself.

I see that your Leer top has the tracks on top, but no Thule racks. Did you have to purchase the roof rack system from the dealer to get the tracks, or is that a separate thing? I had the Yakima racks on my old truck which worked great for hauling large objects (sheets of wood, tubing for extra large tents, etc). For this truck, I was considering the same type of setup for carrying similar, but I also have been a bit curious about the racks like the Prinsu as well (which from what I understand bolt up to the tracks on the top of the shell if so equipped).

Thanks again for the help on this!

Did they say how they do the wiring for brake light, general/overhead lights, and keyless entry? I'm thinking of getting a topper and that part worries me the most. I hate cutting into and splicing factory wiring. I much prefer inserting a harness in at the tail lights, tailgate lock (if you have one, otherwise at the passenger footwell I presume), etc., or elsewhere as needed, as long as they don't cut and splice into stuff!

That's one thing I love around here is most of the people selling things on TW seem to get that and design their stuff like KTJO4x4's various endeavors, the 2Lo mod, etc. to work by creating a harness that inserts into factory harnesses and require no splicing.

I have not asked them how they do their wiring, but from my experience in vehicles, shops like this will normally use something like a scotchlock type of connector as they are the easiest for them to use. (Not what I like for connections at all, they typically will break some of the copper strands in the wire when connected).
I completely understand when people don't want to cut into or "splice" OEM wiring. A T-Harness (male and female plug in harness) is a very handy way to connect and is perfect for DIY projects, although it raises the pricing a bit. I just would not expect that from a shell company that makes items for all makes and years to have such deluxe options. That said, I am sure that you could make up your own harness from male and female plugs that will go inline on the brake light bulb at the very least. I am not sure on the door lock part, but there is most likely some harness out there if you search around (most likely for the car alarm market). I personally will just solder the connections to the vehicle harness and be done with it. That type of connection when done properly has the lowest chance of failure (and doesn't cost me anything extra...).

Yeah that is what I'm worried about. Hoping I can find a taillight T-harness of some kind for the brake light for them to use (if they don't already) and maybe something similar for the lock. At least if I have a tailgate lock already there, the worst they could do is tap into that add-on wiring rather than directly into the factory wiring. Also, possibly the bedlight wiring on a 2020 for the overhead lighting if I get that, again at least only tapping into add-on wiring that already uses a harness.

For me the wiring charge was like 20$ so it wasn’t a huge deal and if they ever fail I can solder directly to the factory harness. They did a good job running the wire and stuff though so no issues so far. The tracks come on the topper and will accept almost all roof rack systems. I’m waiting to get a Prinau setup but Thule or Yakima would work no problem. I will try to find my receipt and post a pic of it as it was itemized like yours. It’s been a minute but I’m pretty sure it was like $2800-ish.

edit: man I can’t find that damn receipt anywhere. I’ll keep looking but I would say you’re in the right ball park price wise with the Thule roof rack.

OK, that is good to know. I will see if they are game for discounting the job and not doing the wiring (which I will do myself regardless of their answer just due to that being what I did for a living and I am fairly picky, especially with this truck being my new baby).

With the tracks coming on the shell, that makes it quite nice. At that rate, I would get the Prinsu top rack kit since it is only $150 more and is more versatile.
