Just learned that hard lesson on my 17 TRD Sport. Spent a few thousand $$ on upgrades and liking where the ride was going until earlier this month when an elk, acting on a double dare from her buddies, jumped out in front of me one dark early morning on the highway. It wrote off my truck before it got up and ran away. $30k damage done says the collision assessor and also assessed 50% value for any upgrades for the first 6 months and 25% value for all others after 6 months. So out of $12k for all those great upgrades I did to make my ride really sweet, I got $3k in value.

Now then, had I just bought the OR or the PRO, the assessor wouldn’t have pissed all over my upgrades but would of had to value the whole truck as it came from factory and as it is sold on lots and Auto Trader etc.16B19F64-F963-4A4D-AB6B-B40F5CE0DE8F.jpg

Yeah man, I don't think that's going to buff out. What about trading off your wheels and such to someone else? Insurance company should not care.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Jesus bro, I am glad your ok. My buddy got a moose once. It came all up in the windshield and jacked him up bad. Sucks about the loss, but your still kicking it ;)

Thanks very much. The air bags DIDNT deploy and I believe the 2” lift I did was just enough to keep the elk from coming up over and into the cab. I’ll have to start another thread as I didn’t mean to hyjack this one. I just had to comment on “upgrades” and put in my 2 cents is all.

You didn’t hijack here. You posted up you cement taco! Unfortunately, it’s the last we will see of that one.
I hope you find another truck soon. I do agree with you comment on buying a Pro or OR. They most certainly do hold their values, but are they worth what they are asking...that’s a whole different matter all together.

From that picture you posted, it is amazing that the bags did not deploy. Those elk are pretty rugged. A deer through the windshield is something I worry about around here. We have a large (over) population and, although we mostly joke about "when" we will hit one, it can be quite serious if they get into the windshield. Glad you are OK.

Well, overall I’m pretty happy with the bottom line. I came ahead in that Toyota got paid off and I got a few grand positive equity coming back to me. The damage assessor gave me a $2000 bonus for how well kept it was for 134,000k. Engine bay was spotless, ceramic coated paint, under coated and welds sand blasted and painted. It was my baby and that bonus says a lot for caring for your vehicle. I’m super curious what this truck will go for at auction. I was able to have it towed Yesterday from the auction yard in Calgary to my home to take off the upgrades I wanted since I wasn’t getting much assessed value. For instance my Fuel Vector rims and wheels valued at $100 for the set. Need I say more. F43F2374-DE02-4F85-88E4-0AE5919908B7.jpg
