Used the finishing nail method on mine. Such a small thing that was a big headache every time I opened the center console. All good now!

Talk about saving some bucks. here in Hawaii it was over 400 just for the center console. On line orders were pretty close to that with shipping. The set screws were .25 cents each had the rest of the tools in my arsenal already so my time free. not bad for fix costing less than $1.

Thanks for posting this. Picked up two 6-32 x 3/8" set screws at Home Depot. (They didn't have the 4-40's.) Used a Dremel to make the slots just a hair wider. Other than that, a $0.68 fix!!! Took about 10 minutes total. Really appreciate the pictures also. No more electrical tape on the center console.

BIG UPS on this mod. Mine went out recently and found this thread via Google. Fkn soooo glad I didnt have to waist $$. I only spent about $1 on mine though. I mainly looked through my drill bits to find one that was close to the set screw size, used a smaller bit for a pilot hole and then (THANK GAWD I had the size) used an allen wrench to screw it into place. I lost my spring unfortuately, so I broke a 99 Cents Store pen I had and used the spring from that... amazingly it fkn worked!!!! Although the spring is too long, just a little off the top and it not only works but is damn near close to the same size as the OEM spring.

All and all Im fkn happy and this was one great fix to a problem that would have cost too damn much

It's been at least three years since I had to utilize this fix and its held perfectly. Funny how the cheap-o yet effective fix outlasted OEM.

You guys rock. I had this issue occur to me on Friday. Today, I started searching here, because I just knew someone had this issue and came up with a fix. Once again, this forum with all its great people came through. I did a variation and didn't have to leave the house, except to go to the truck in the backyard, to apply the fix.

I had lost the spring, so I used a spring from a ball point pen. It worked just fantastic. I drilled some small holes and had some bailing wire at home, just tad be lesser in diameter than a standard wire coat hanger. I drilled, until the point where the wire pushed thru the holes with resistance and then just the smallest (we're talking a drop off the tip of a needle) of Gorilla Glue on each.

Once again, this forum and you guys saved me from big bucks and frustration. Thanks again.

Just now saw this site and registered. My latch broke also and I went to the hardware store and purchased a 3/32 inch wire and drill bit. Drilled two holes where the broken tabs had been, cut to fit (the wire closest to the dash has to be shorter.) I placed JB Weld inside the area where the 3/32 wires were inserted. Let it dry and reinstalled. Works like a charm and beats the $275 quote I was given today. Actually it worked fine without JB Welding, but I used the JB for insurance to keep the wire from eventually wallowing out the two holes I drilled.

Thanks Proformance OP! Excellent repair solution. The nice thing is it only cost me the two set screws. I already had the drill bit and my neighbor had the 4-40 tap.

Perfect fix for broken console latch on my 2010 Toyota Tacoma. I bought parts from True Value and Fastenal (two 4-40 x 3/8" set screws). This repair was completed for short money and worked great. The only thing I would add to the repair instructions would be that you need a 1/16" Allen Wrench to tighten down the set screws. Thank you for a great write up. You have helped all of us.
