Just wanted to post an update that after almost a year, this thing is still going strong, even in the Florida heat and humidity.

It holds my heavy ass Sig every morning and night as I drive home and aside from the holster getting a bit more loose around the gun, which I like, the adhesive is still holding strong.

Highly recommend this mod for those that live in states allowing it.

I had the gun pouch on my last set of Okoles. Honestly, it sucked, at least for my gun. I carry a Sig P226 and when it's got a full mag, the damn thing is way too heavy for that pouch. It just wouldn't stay in a position that would have made it easy to draw.

If you're just looking for a place to keep the gun so it doesn't roll/slide around, I'm sure it'd be fine. I just couldn't see myself being able to draw quickly enough from it, mainly because of the weight of the gun and how far down it hung/sat on the floor, as well as my Sig being SA/DA, and the hammer getting caught on the way up.

Thanks dude! I highly recommend it for us Floridians where the law allows us to do it!

I'm going to do my best to make it. We're rolling out a new application at work January 1st so it will all depend on how that goes.

OP, I'm a Sig 1911 guy, do you think this will hold up to that weight?
My concerns are the same as yours, no way could I access it easily in the truck while in my IWB holster. In my state, I can have it in the console or glove box while I'm in the truck, but not away from it. Neither one constitute a legal "secured" space, even with a lock, so this mod would be great here while commuting.

I wouldn't have any concerns with holstering Sig's 1911 with it. Benefit for you is your climate. Here in Florida, I was concerned that over time, the adhesive would break down and the weight of the gun would eventually peel it off. That may still happen, but hasn't yet.

Be sure to get the "Industrial Grade" velcro at Lowe's or Home Depot. Pic below (hotlinked).

So far, it has held up extremely well for me.

Post up some pics if you decide to go this route!

I have my gun in the same place as yours but I use a gun magnet attached to the console with some 3M, removable, picture frame tape. I use a magnet for 3 reasons; 1 - I carry either a G19 or HK p2000, so a universal holster isn't ideal. 2 - I don't like driving with an empty holster on my hip and the magnet is strong enough to hold the gun in place while driving, even through a holster. 3 - Tis the season for break ins and even though I rarely leave my gun my car, if someone were to break in, they won't see an empty holster, just an empty center console.

I've tried using velcro instead of the 3M tape but with velcro, it's very easy to rock your gun back and forth. It may not break away but I'd rather have a solid point of contact that does not move. The 3M tape is removable and solid if you get the right weighted ones. I do not suggest a magnet and a bare gun unless you screw the magnet down. Without a holster in between, I easily broke the 3M bond and found the magnet still clinging to my slide. Another advantage of a magnet is that it offsets my gun from the console wall just enough to clear the lock.

I did the center console rig, except I used a fobus holster with the paddle removed, I did put three holes into the side, but I used screw covers to cover them, really cant see them anyway because of the seat, Ill try and get some pics.

Magnet is on the left with the 3M removable tape tab sticking out the top. I even have a little extra room for some kleenex

I thought about the magnet idea, but with my Sig being as heavy as it is and the roads around here as bad as they are, I was afraid it'd pop off or have enough bounce that it'd scratch the finish.

I also like the velcro as I can expand it to cover a mag holder and other accessories if I want. With it holding as well as it is, I imagine I will be getting a mag holder from Maxpedition very soon to add to it.

Only downside to the center console rig is I can't fit my GPS in its case in there with the gun, which is annoying. I just have to move it behind my seat, but that can get a little annoying.

I, too, thought about going with this method. I just didn't like the idea of screwing into the console itself. The lid is one thing, where I plan on mounting a flashlight.

Looks good! I'm able to squeeze in a pocket CPR mask, a microfiber cloth and a flashlight in with mine when I have my GPS and case behind the seat. I will likely just leave the GPS behind the seat permanently but with the regular cab, there's an awkward hump in the floor that causes it to move all over the place.

I've been debating the idea of purchasing a dedicated truck gun, but I just can't justify it right now. Plus, I'd still remove it if it was going to be parked for an extended period of time, which seems to negate the need for a dedicated truck gun.

Agree, and nice job on what you did. I am old school and even wheel guns just don't work well in the WO pouch IMO for the same reasons as your Sig.

That is exactly what I used to mount my power expander for the WO heated seats and USB cable to my phone mount on the A pillar. Have to see how well it holds up this winter but so far it has been rock solid. IIRC it said on the box about keeping it out of direct sunlight but in both our applications that is not an issue. Now you have me thinking and I have a lot of Velcro left over.... Thanks!

Thanks for the kudos man. Hopefully it gives others some ideas.

I know what you mean about having a ton of Velcro left. I'll probably line the inside of the console with it so I can just put whatever I want on there. :D

    an extra mag.

I've looked through this thread and found a few people that have put their firearms in different places while driving. For those of you that take your firearm off your body, have you ever tried to actually use your setup in a situation? I'm an advocate of living of something were to happen, so I practice a lot. I also see a lot of people that have great places to store their gun, but haven't actually tried to use their setup. I hope everyone that carries a firearm in a vehicle actually has tried their setup...even if you don't have the ability to do this at your local range, you should be able to dry fire/use a training gun replica somewhere and practice.

    Relatively good advice...

I absolutely agree, which is what led me to find a better spot than the Wet Okole pouch or my IWB holster. Practice also taught me at which angles (of the gun in the holster) I was at my strongest.

If you don't use it, you lost it, though. I try to run through drills as often as I can. I'll also be getting my girlfriend involved soon. I want her to know where the gun is, which side of the console the button is on (or where my other gun is), etc. If something happens to me, she has to be able to protect herself.

Here in Central Florida, there have been numerous cases of dudes just walking in front of a row of cars at the stop light and opening fire for no apparent reason. Freaks me the hell out.

Nice! The cool thing about this holster is it's fully adjustable and over time, it will conform to your gun. Mine fits almost as snugly as my leather Galco IWB holster after having carried it on me for nearly four years now.

Have you had any issues with the adhesive on the Velcro giving it up in the heat of the summer? It gets stupid hot here in July and August and I have other things with Velcro on them where the adhesive basically liquefies in the heat in the car.

Here in Florida we get similar to heat to Arkansas (grew up in Fayetteville) and so far, the adhesive is still as strong as the day I installed it.

My truck is always outside, albeit with a sunshade always in.
