On our last long trip my wife noticed that the cups in the cup holder were getting warm. I pulled the center console and saw there was a little insulation but lots of bare metal on the transmission hump, hence the heat and warm cup holders, especially the front two.

So I had some this insulation lying around (It was one of the folding windshield heat shields. I used part of it to insulate the bottom of my daughters terrarium (Gecko)). I used some silicone to glue them to the bottom of the cupholders.

Then I laid some of it down on the tranny hump with the reflective side down.

If this works at least partially I may find some better insulation to see if I can cut the heat from the tranny hump. It really needs to be insulated better. It took about 30 minutes with about a dollars worth of material. YMMV

    This is a great idea!

I was just on a 14 hour road trip on Saturday and noticed the same thing with my can drinks in there. I thought it was probably the heat from my engine running for hours. I was thinking of some kinda of soda can cooler or thermo like the Yeti Rambler. But your idea is better and out of sight.

Sounds like a great idea. I think I'll research the R value of some different insulation materials.

In my Corvette; you could heat water for some tea in the cupholders. :)
