    What an easy fix. Who ever said use a roll pin: way to go! It's fixed better than new and only cost 32 cents. I went to Ace and picked up 2 1/16 x 1 roll pin way too long, but it made the fix easier. Taking the lid apart was five screws than 2 for the latch. I found my spring on my seat under the back support. It's easy to see that the latch is a two part assembly that had small tabs in two grooves that have worn off. I took the moving part and drilled two 1/16 holes where the old tabs had broken off or worn away. mine was obvious. I assembled the two pieces with out the spring and inserted the roll pins which were way too long, but I grabbed them with a long nose pliers and cut them to proper length. Now, I installed the spring and reinserted the roll pins. fixed. Put all the things back. Basically you can justify buying a drill press and getting a better fix than buying a new consul from Toyota. Again thanks. I could do it again in 15 minutes

    I drilled a hole in the latch and put a loop of paracord through it. Close lid, pull string. I really didn't feel like spending money to fix something like that.

    Thanks! Just finished mine with a 1/8 x 3/4 pin and didn't have to cut it down. Looks clean!

    I just fixed my console latch on a 2008 Tacoma. Slight modification. I drilled tiny holes and used finishing nails (cut to the correct depth). Had to use a drop of super glue to keep the nails in place.

    Thanks a lot for the posts! Saved big bucks.

    The latch on my 2010 console lid just broke. I used the roll pin method, had it fixed in 10 minutes. Tacomaworld to the rescue, again. Thanks.

    1) Find some form of stiff metal bar small enough to fit in the grooves where the plastic clips used to be. {I used a cotter pin I had laying around}
    2) Find a drill bit that is just the size of the metal bar you will be using and drill holes in the places where the plastic clips used to be
    3) Cut the metal down into pins that just stick over the slide grooves when inserted in the drilled holes
    4) If you have lost the spring use the spring from a old pin
    5) Carefully dab some super glue in the holes you drilled
    6) Put everything together use pliers to slide the pins into the holes
    7) Reinstall in truck

    This worked in 5 minutes or less! Hardest part was finding the right size screws - they are in the base of the land line phone. Hopefully my husband doesn't notice

    Hi All,

    For the spring you can use one from a pen.

    Hey T1tu$, looks like someone on Amazon took your image for marketing.

    I just went to my local Toyota dealership and paid $35 for a new latch assembly and put it in with a couple screws if I remember right. I didn’t have to buy a whole new lid or console
