Pull harder! It will open all the way to the back seat with a good yank. Had to be the first one. Lol.

Already tried that, why you think I need a hinge mod.

I think it is limited on purpose so it won't fold into the rear cup holders

i asked the same right after i got my 2016, that lid sucks. i was going to try to figure out a mod to make it go back further but i can't even figure out how to get the lid off! worst case if i can get the lid off i will just leave it detached and put it on like a cork. when i need to get in there just remove it and set it on the pax seat.

thanks@ChaseFan, took me 3 minutes to get it off. took the hinge out and there are stops on each side of the hinge that keep it from going further back. i am going to grind them off, even if i get it to go part of the way further back to eliminate my elbow hitting the dam lid every time i try to access the box. i may have to do some mod to the back of the lid to get more travel.see pic where i have a screwdriver between the stop. i will update when i figure it all out.hingel.jpg

i put the plastic piece under the lid back on and set it on the box and the latch clicks in place. think i am going to drive with it like that for a bit. when i need access i will just open like normal and set it on the pax seat then put it back on. looks like it will take some cutting on the cup holder to get it to travel enough to do any good. i will keep looking at it and try to come up with other alternative.

No. after looking at it the best that could be gained is the lid opening maybe 2" farther back. would not make any difference, still would be right in my elbows way. think i am good with just removing the hinge and when i need access i just remove the lid, set it aside, do what i need in the box and put lid back on. it is locked on does not slip around with the hinge removed.

Nice! Looking back at our old cars, the console was lower due to them being FWD. The wife's Forester is about the same elbow height, but opens much more.

Of course, I lost a bit with the redlinegoods extra padding, but my elbow sure likes it.
