Great idea! I may have missed it as I skimmed each post without reading in detail, but one with a thin flat mount that could accept a powerful magnet behind it or one that would hold a magnet would be fantastic. That way you could make more of a universal design that people could just add a flat metal circle to so that the magnet would hold the phone. Same principal as this:

Then by adding the metal plate to any case any TW member could use the mount. And you have less versions that you have to design and make.

I would definitely be interested. Like most have voted, I would like one that would be adjustable. You never know when you may have to replace a phone and therefore it would be nice to have one that at the least would adjust to fir it. Great design by the way.

Good point! Maybe another option would be to produce a universal base that would have various phone holders attach so they could be interchangeable. But I still like the magnet idea. With a magnet you could stick lots of things there as long as you could affix a small flat piece of metal.

That's another good option as well. I'm not well versed on the subject, but aren't small powerful magnets around devices such as cell phones (with hard drives) bad for them? Must not be if there's products out there that use this tech.

That is what I was wondering. How would the magnet affect the hard drive?

I always thought so too, until I owned one of those magnet mounts. I disassembled one to make my own, and all it was was 4 little button style earth magnets! You could easily buy those in bulk and integrate those into the mount

    Google was my friend.....

SSDs (Solid State Drives) are not sensitive to magnets (See: Solid-state drive). The are generally a cluster of NAND chips (Flash memory), which use electricity, rather than magnetism, to encode and store data. The only component of a computer that are sensitive to magnetism is a magnetic hard drive.

Yep, just googled it myself! I'll definitely look into the RAM mount and magnet style for a universal unit. People who run cases probably wouldn't mind a magnet between the phone/case I'd imagine.

The magnet is not between the case and the phone. A small, thin piece of metal is. The magnet is outside the case, on the mount itself. You adhere the metal to either the back of the phone or the case itself and the magnet holds onto the metal. So your design would have to hold a magnet(s) in some fashion in order to work.

@Karbyn if you don't run a case I have dock's on hand for your phone now.

I can post a F/S thread for those that are interested and don't run a case as the current design will work great. In the meantime I'll be working on a universal unit as well!

Bed rug, ARE bed top, Weathertechs. Little goodies here and there!
Hey don't forget the Samsung folks.

I'd go for the magnet one if the metal is thin enough. I have a magnet mount that goes into the cd player, but the metal is a little on the thick/big side for the Otter.

I'm not trying to forget about anyone! At this point I think the most logical solution is to pursue some universal options, in which I have some parts coming this week to start developing. Along with the RAM style mount I will also look into the magnet style.

Great idea! Enjoyed reading the thread. Looks like you have some challenges with all the different phones and cases. One other thing you might want to look at is the selfie stick with it's spring loaded universal mount. It makes production more complicated than one piece of plastic but it's another idea.

Good luck getting up and running! This forum is amazing for getting feedback and support for developing products. I got started the same way here with the console organizers.
